D&D 5E (2014) [IC] Uller's Out of the Abyss

Surana sets her pack in the camp and helps Drum out of it before walking over to the stream to get a look at the fish. Between the light, the sound of running water, and the prospect of fish to catch, she realizes this is the first time she's felt even vaguely at home in the Underdark. She smiles a little at the thought, and then looks up from the water, thinking the only thing that could make this better was a little company.

"Hey, Eldeth," she says as she points down at the stream. "Join me?"

As the dwarf approaches, she grins and adds under her breath, "Not that I'm sick of Bert's delicious mushroom paste..."

Over the course of an hour or so you manage to catch about dozen reasonably large fish, resulting in the equivalent of about 15 pounds of food.

Bertram makes a small but hot fire with some dried zurkhwood he had found. The stuff smells like burnt hair when it burns but it makes very little smoke.

While everyone is enjoying the first decent meal you can remember having, Derendil asks almost to himself: "How do we know this is real?"

"I know, it feels odd to relax. We will lose ourselves if we keep holding on so tightly, we need this. We will see the sun again, my friend. You will see the forest of your home again..." Ezraen puts his hand on the big guy's shoulder, trying to imagine what he looks like in his elven form... "I must believe that this is real, else, I will break. That, I cannot allow. Lathander will guide me, as each day begins anew, so shall we take each day."
OOC: I kind of want to eventually take the Inspiring Leader feat, but I have so much else that we could benefit from.

OOC: "Let teachers and priests and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion..."

Surana watches their exchange with a bemused look, wondering if this is the sort of thing priests and princes worry about. She considers her piece of fish for a moment and takes another bite. It's hot and flavorful.

"Real enough for me," she laughs, mouth still full of fish. "But if it's sorcery or madness," she says, head lolling back to speak up to whatever powers lay beyond, "Can I get an ale?"

Ezraen burst out in laughter, and suddenly quiets himself when he realizes that it is echoing through the cavern. "I sure could use an ale meself, lady!"

"Did someone say 'ALE'?"

A tall (for a deep gnome) thin and obviously inebriated deep gnome appears from...you're not sure where...maybe from behind a rock near the stream? He walks confidently towards Surana as if he knows her. Surana is sure she doesn't know him...yet he seems familiar.

"Plenty where this came from! Here you go." He offers to pour you some of whatever is in the cask.

When she hesitates "oh don't worry...your credit is good. The name's Lloyd, by the way." He grins a broad thin grin.

Surana drops her fish and stands, all mirth gone in an instant. She backs away from the gnome and looks him over with an icy ecpression.

OOC: Familiar...seemingly appears out of nowhere...grinning.
