forgot this important description of the Hook Horror. So while we wait for JustinCase
[MENTION=6801671]SunGold[/MENTION]: When the creature moved up into the brightness of Surana's light, she notices two things. When its eyes catch the light just right, the reflect, not gold but the same crimson hue as Sarith's reflect. And when it got right up on her to attack, she could see two things. First, it is covered in orange and red mold. Mushroom like fungi are growing from beneath its carapace wherever there are gaps. Second, there are a great many gaps and even holes. This creature is badly damaged...Surana is surprised it is alive at all. And the way it moves...she is not sure it actually IS alive. If she has seen zombies or heard of zombies at any point in her life (which I am sure she would since they are quite common), the way it moves reminds her of that. Sort of mindless and not all that coordinated...at least not as coordinated as a similarly sized giant spider.
Erevan decides to keep attacking the first monster, hoping to down it quickly.
OOC:
Does the fact that a certain barbarian lady just rushed past me effect my attack? If so, see my disadvantage roll.
Attack: [roll0]
If disadvantage [roll1]
+bless [roll2]
Damage [roll3]
I don't tend to have allies get in the way of ranged attacks. I suppose on a ledge like this, if the combatants were the same size I'd consider having Surana provide cover to the hook horror. But since it's towering over her I don't worry about it...but if you roll a nat 1 then you have to 'attack' your ally.
You have an ally adjacent to your target. Doesn't that allow you to use Sneak Attack damage?
I think you might have the marching order slightly mixed up, JustinCase. Surana didn't run past Erevan; she ran in the opposite direction. She was at the front of the line, so there was nothing between her and the hook horror (unless you count "some damn sense").
The last marching order post indicated otherwise. If Surana doesn't block my path, that's alright, but I guess no sneak attack then, either? Although I'm now wondering which monster injured Surana.
I'll roll sneak attack damage and will let the DM decide if it's appropriate: [roll0]
Edit: My bad, I didn't read your post carefully. She didn't run past me, but the marching order is correct. I misinterpreted it as Surana rushing towards another hook horror. Sorry for the confusion. The good news, however, is that I do deal sneak attack damage.
Yes, you get sneak attack. I view SA and cunning action to be as key to the rogue class as rage is to Barbarians or setting mobs of orc alight is to a wizard. If you meet the criteria for using them, you can use them. If you aren't going to dash or hide, don't forget that dodge feature! It's huge.
So you just doubled the damage done to it so far. By my count we're at 26 damage to hook horror 1.
