D&D 5E (IC) Vault of the Dracolich (River Gang)

"Hey, I could have let everyone get their fluids sucked out by giant mosquitoes, but I figured a bruised shoulder would be better." Auraia said.

The River Gang continued working their way to the far-end of the lower lake. The water ran into a wide tunnel that dropped even deeper underground, twisting to the right as it went. Carefully working their way along, the group came to a wider cavern with a powerful waterfall, cascading into a jagged rift that plunged deep into darkness. Green crystalline growths were spread up beyond the edges of the rift and a huge stalactite of the stuff had broken (perhaps in the recent earthquake, or an older one) and fallen across the rift to form a natural bridge. Closer to the waterfall, thick, ropy vines hanged down from the shadowy ceiling above.

A ledge of dark, mercifully dry and hard rock surrounded the rift, and far across the cavern, in the light of Dunmire's Lantern, a strange shimmering veil covered the far wall of the cavern. Shining the lantern around, Dunmire revealed another tunnel, dry and stony, rising up from the ledge nearby.

OOC: I will post a map if you wish, but you can leave the cavern (and the waters of the lake) behind you and go up the tunnel on the left right away. Aquaria thinks that way leads to another Bhaalite Obelisk, if Guldred's memory is lucid. Crossing to look at the shimmering veil looks easy enough if you stick to the walls.

Mord looks about the cavern considering their options. "I've been relatively fortunate, but I fear that some of us are about to collapse. Perhaps it's time we search for a place to rest. Even just momentarily. I'd rather not lose any of our people at a crucial juncture."

As for himself Mord only looks somewhat weary and the little mud and dirt he has managed doesn't show up too well on his dark clothing.

Squirrels are evil!

Don't be silly... resting is for babies, said SnorLoska with irritation. Let's walk up this other tunnel. I don't like the look of that shimmering veil over there, said SnorLoska pointing ahead.

"Well Kurzon seems rather, uh, banged up" said Udit with a look of concern. He then glanced over and said "But I do agree with you. I don't like that veil either".

The half-orc paladin nodded his thanks to Udit and drew a javelin, "I might be support for this one?"

Using the divine senses, he tries to get a feel for what might be in the area.

The veil gives off intense necrotic vibes and would probably be lethal to the touch for most living creatures. Otherwise, (if you were unliving, protected, or suitably powerful) you could walk right through it, probably to another cavern or room, like a big door with a nasty curtain.

SnorLoska withdraws a few steps and concedes: Ok, ok. Let's have a rest... like babies. Just stay away from that shimmering veil. It doesn't bode well!

Udit nods. "Uh, yeah, I don't like that veil at all either... maybe the entrance of that tunnel would be ok?"

He stops a moment and takes the stone out

"Uh, hello, we got some intel from some lizard men. We are approaching a stone tunnel where one of the idols may be. We are near a rift where water is plunging deep into the earth. Nearby there is a magical veil, it seems to be made of, huh, necromantic energy. Maybe it's, uh, that ward you talked about , although it seems like a weird place to have it? Anyway we are bit spent and looking for a safe spot to take a little breather before going on. Just wanted to, uh, keep you updated. How are the others doing?"
