"Nicely done. I'll take point," Lord Nelleon offers as he passes through the open doorway. Upon seeing Cass move towards the north door, he hesitates however and waits to make sure that the party does intend to head the southerly route.

Cass accepts his chain shirt and pack from Niles. After donning the shirt, Cass casts a look at Silhouette and the secret door in the south wall, then heads over to the secret door in the north wall. Cass pulls open the door inset in the north wall.

Opening the secret door in the north wall reveals a small niche. Inside that niche is a small pedestal that holds a jewel that glows with pale blue light. It is cold to the touch. There is another inscription: "Thou hast seen through deception to uncover a useful tool."

Looking down from above Niles observes the gem [detect magic to see what auras are on it] 15 + item's caster level: [roll0]
appraise item: [roll1]

Niles observes the gem to see if it is magical as well as to determine the value of it.

Niles is not able to detect any magic but his appraisal reveals that this ‘jewel’ is a cleverly crafted bit of sealed quartz. Inside the quartz is alchemist’s ice. If thrown the jewel breaks and explodes exactly as alchemist’s fire but instead inflicts cold damage.

"Oh, how fascinating!" Beams Niles, "It works just like alchemist's fire, ut cod instead of fire. Somehow it has been sealed inside a quartz gem. How creditably clever!"
