ICv2 has D&D in third place after Star Wars

Depending on how much "D&D" is used as a generic by those surveyed for the ICV2 rankings, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see some Pathfinder sales reported as D&D, and errantly propping up WotC in the rankings.

But more likely IMO it's that there's such a gulf between the top spots and lower down at this stage, and D&D by virtue of its ubiquity and brand-awareness is ranked 3 on reprint sales and whatever residual 4e sales there might be. But honestly, it's hard to say.

Shemeska; That's a good point about reprint sales. I wish we knew if it included the reprints.

What it really demonstrates is how weak the sales of the rest of the industry are. D&D is still as high as #3? Wow.

(And I'll be fascinated to see if FFG can maintain that high ranking.

Why wouldn't it? Presumably at a minimum it includes all physical sales (books, maps, minis, anything else that isn't digital) from surveyed merchants combined with data from distributors. I assume sales of old stock would count regardless of edition, new releases would count, and the reprints would count among the latter.

It's a good assumption, I just don't know. And I think it's possible that they don't count.

I am utterly amazed that WotC has the number three position ... with pretty much no releases. I think that says how small some of the other spots are. It's a strange situation for me: since I dropped my DDI subscription last year, I haven't purchased anything from WotC, and that's probably the longest period I haven't given the producers of D&D any of my money since I started playing.

Still, there's SO MUCH good out there at the moment, that I have something to do with all of that cash I'd normally give them...

So, this is for the Summer of 2013 - what has D&D put out? I remember buying the the S1-4 reprint around March, but what else have they put out? And I don't think this counts DDI subscriptions.

I have to wonder how small a pie all of this is and what the $ / % difference is between the top 3. Especially with as little as I can remember D&D putting out right now.

I don't think it counts PDF's and I'd be floored if it included DDI. Nor do I think that it includes amazon or it's ilk.

But that is true for paizo as well as wotc and probalby everyone else on the list. Evil hat's numbers are public, what was their sales for FATE in the summer?

Awesome news for Evil Hat. Especially when you consider they give the rules away for free, and FATE Core is mostly meant to power games based on it.
