If 3.0 Haste were a spell in 3.5, what level would it be?

Well, just curious.

It can't be lower than 4th level (because of 3rd level 3.5 Haste).

It can't be higher than 8th level (because 9th level Time Stop does much more).

So what level would it be?

IMHO, you can't fix the main problem with 3.0 Haste no matter what level it is. If you think it's a problem, that is. Which I'm not sure I do. Did that make sense at all? :p

No matter what level it is, it's always the best spell to cast in the first round of combat. Better than time stop or gate.

... because you can cast any spell after casting it, for free, and the next round you can likewise cast two spells.

Thus, IMHO there is no "sane" level for 3.0e haste, since it's always better than any other spells at the same level.

I agree it would be a no-brainer. Even at level 8 it might be a bit strong. Level 9 spells are significantly more powerful than others, so Time Stop is ok...

Haste would be balanced if there were more possibilities to get extra actions.

In my 3.5 game, 3.0 Haste is a 3rd level spell. The 3.5 Haste doesn't exist. I know that a lot of people really hated it, but I never had a problem with it. My players use it regularly and we have a very exciting time.

Of course, your mileage may vary ;)

6th or 7th, probably 7th.

See Arcane Spellsurge for the comparisson.

Essentially it's a must-have for any spellcaster over a certain level. It basically makes any spell you cast Quickened Plus.

In the economy of actions, for a spellcaster, 3.0 haste equals winning.
