D&D 5E (2024) If D&D 2024 Had Been Radically Different, Would You Have Stuck With 5E

Would you have adopted a very different D&D 2024?

  • Yes, I would have adopted it given the perameters in the OP.

    Votes: 20 19.6%
  • I would have at least checked it out to see if I wanted to adopt it.

    Votes: 58 56.9%
  • I would have stayed with 5E because I personally prefer 5E.

    Votes: 7 6.9%
  • I would have stayed with 5E becasue of other reasons (still running a campaign, etc)

    Votes: 7 6.9%
  • "It depends," despite being told this was against the rules.

    Votes: 10 9.8%

My answer is still "staying with 5E," for the same reason I always give: we already have all of the 5E books, and we already have them in Roll20. Nobody in our group wants to spend that kind of money on a handful of updates.

That’s actually a good point. Not only would it mean new book purchases, but likely new VTT book purchases (for us, at least…we’re geographically spread out). Not a complete deal-beaker, but it does add weight to the scales.

Biased poll is biased. Unintentionally no doubt, designing a fair poll is hard. It's one of the things I've taught on occasion (it's on the GCSE Maths syllabus). It's clear that the OP believes that there should have been a radical 6e and worded all the responses so that they would all reflect that. Hence the absence of a "Hell no, and I would quit D&D in disgust" response from the options available - anyone who thinks that doesn't get to vote so they are left out of the statistics.

Without the anniversary I’m not sure WotC would have pulled the trigger in a new revision.

It certainly seemed to drive the schedule, even if it was partially missed.

They probably woukd have.

1E lasted 12 years, 2E 11.

Basic 17 but with at least 3 revisions maybe 5 or 6.

Bookscan indicated sales were down. Iirc WotC said something like Covid was peak sales.

I Stayed with 5e because I like the game, but I chose 'other reasons' because I don't want to support Wizards of the Coast.

I quit supporting Wizards of the Coast and switched to Pathfinder when they came out with 4th edition. I tried it and didn't like it so I switched. I quit supporting Paizo and switched to Wizards of the Coast when they came out with 5th edition. I tried Pathfinder 2nd edition and didn't like it.

I currently haven't supported Wizards of the Coast since Tasha's Cauldron, because I feel hurt by them. It's personal. I don't think they respect me, I don't think they want me as a Player, and I think they betrayed the entire Community in 2023 with their One D&D power grab.

I don't think Wizards of the Coast/Hasbo is a good steward of the game.

I think we can. The later books can date after hasbrontool over distribution didn’t match what stores were selling. H*ck it didn’t even come close to a regions sales. That data isn’t useful.

Make your own decisions. WotC themselves said Covid was the peak iirc.

They made a new version there's one big obvious reason to do that.

Hell you were a big offender on the old Amazon threads which is even less relevant than Bookscan which at least have hard numbers.
