If you campaign had introductory text a la Star Wars.. (
It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the Death Star, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet

I'd keep it short:

"You guys got picked. Why? Cause some powerful archmage said so. You don't like it? Tough. So where are you going? Probably some place you don't want to be. Why? Cause again the Archmage said so!"

Here's one for a campaign that I'm thinking about running someday...

The King of the Ironlands has died without an heir to the throne, leaving the rule of the realm in the hands of the seven powerful Sorcerer Lords who were his loyal vassals for a hundred years. So far, peace has reigned in the realm, but every man, woman and child of the Ironlands knows that the peace will not last.

For the people know that the Sorcerer Lords have each lived for more than five hundred years, and that their deadly feud has raged for many generations before the King united the realm. They know that it is only a matter of time before the Ironlands are swept into another disastrous age of civil war.

The fire fell from the sky and the empire of the scaled folk vanished. The demonic dragon-gods rose to rule all, and were driven back down into the otherworld by the strong arm of the Jotusgar. And now, the Jotusgar have grown accustomed to their rule...

A hundred generations from now, they will not know your names, or why you fought. They will not understand bone numbing chill that pervades your limbs from the weeks of trudging through the snow and ice. They will not comprehend the treachery of kings, or the weaknesses of the common man. They will not see your faces as they are now - so full of idealism and youthful energy; nor will they know them as they will be - old, troubled, and weary. But you do not fight for your glory or the people of this time; you fight for the souls that will be and the hope of an existence free from the Shadows.

I drempt of my death once, but now it dreams of me/and only rats and rotting flesh can hear my silent plea.

Ah, the far realm. to see the defaning silence of the colossal midget's laughing screams and taste the sad exhaliration of the black sun's frozen fire, smelling the delecate taste of fine dungs and hearing the pleasing vile scent of roses in the evning before the moon reaches its apex for dawn.

Mad? thats only the begining. here light moves at a snails pace and darkens where it should illuminate while the living ghosts sing the silent songs that bring the colors of the midnight noon to the cheeks of a black pudding who's complexion never changes and plays chess on a mah-jong board with a dragon with a tail for a head and his head on his tail and a baby who has learned in his long life all the things he still dosn't know.

But here is not here, so the grand mugwup, who is the lowest of all peoples did edict before there was here and here was everywhere and the people declared him grand mugwup for being a horrible grand mugwup in the future and never paid attention to his speeches to which attention must be paid. the grand mugwup died one day before breakfast but was born after dinner and conceived before he woke up to go to the breakfast which he died before.

Let it be known how the heroic villian fended off four of the evil hero's best worst lackey masters because they had killed him and he felt no rancor about it after the fact. after all no one always wins but someone wins every time in order that the game thet no one plays can begin for everyone to participate in.

Britannia 3E intro:

Twenty years have passed since the fall of Exodus, marking the defeat of the Triad of Evil. From the rubble of Sosaria, Lord British has united the land under his one rule. This new Empire of Britannia brings with it the promise of much sought-after peace and prosperity for its subjects. Many of the great cities have already seen tremendous growth since the unification of the realm, and it is hoped that the new regime will heal the hurts of war, and open up the wilderness to settlement and trade.

However, much remains to be done. While the settled lands near the cities and towns of the Empire are peaceful, the rule of law is weak to nonexistent elsewhere. The lords of evil have been destroyed, but their servants remain, subjecting the land to chaos and devastation. The great Dungeons remain as open wounds which none dare to close; gateways to the realms of the Underworld where monsters dwell. There is much truth in the saying, "the Empire is large, and the Emperor is far away".

Britannia now stands on the verge of a new Golden Age. It awaits those who will seize the moment and shape its future, bringing the promise to fulfilment.

This was my introduction for my last campaign:

Welcome the Islands of the Far Sea, a vast ocean with thousands of islands holding many secrets and lost treasures for those bold enough to claim them. The area called the Far Seas is enormous, and even experience sailors know that anything might happen, should they venture far from well travelled trade routes, or land on an unknown shore. A furious storm can crush any ship like a twig, monsters dwell in the dark beneath the waves and every rocky or jungle covered island might be a haven for pirates, slavers, dangerous sorcerers or worse.

[It is a grim world among the ruins of lost civilizations and fallen empires. It is a world of hidden truths, of war and political machinations. It is a world where monsters walk the earth, dragons soar across the skies and demons snare the souls of innocents. Are you brave enough to face it?

Its not quite like STARWARS, since my politics section wasn't quite done when we began :)

"The sudden death of the kings immediat family has taken back the city of cormyr, yet one man has chosen himself to aid the city. Realising the weakness of the city he send the remants of the army out to the stone lands, but will it be enough? Or will the Mages aims be found to be more sinister?"

It has been quite a long while since the event that forged the world. None knows how long, and few know how it was created. There are so many rivalling theories, afterall, that it is difficult to tell those who do know from the hordes of other screaming mad men. Few know why it is that seperate patches of various demensions have been apparently flung together to create a single world, without any regard for the advancement made by the various planes in the fields of technology and magic.
Whatever it was that happened to birth the world is unimportant now, as this world- and several others, are now in grave danger of a powerful, dark entity that looms on the horizon. Now, a team of strong warriors stand against this dark shadow- but if they are not too careful, they may be sucked right in.
