If you could Add one more race to the PHB

None. I'd remove the half-xxx races and at least one of the wee folk.

After that, I might be talked into adding the goblinoids (especially hobgoblins, which are a PC race IMC) are more likely, they actually seem to have a civilization.

Goblins & Orcs (Because they are green and cool)
or
Gnolls (Because they are big and cool)
or
Centaurs (Because they are er horselike and cool..)

ohohoh: Illithids! because none of the other races eat brains :D

That took forever. All the silly kobold and goblin talk when a lawful non-PHB race is already there for use.

I've been thinking about shrinking gnomes to tiny just to distinguish them from halflings.
