I voted 9; it's a good level since you've already gotten your second stat bonus, just got a new feat, your weaker saves go up by one.. You're officially in the "Big League" now: Full casters get their 5th level spells which have fun things like teleport, raise dead, wall of thorns, and cloudkill.

You're a big potato but not so powerful that you can ignore mooks. You can influence a town but still can't boss everyone around.

9th.

If you focus on one particular area, you really start to shine.

It's just high enough to feel heroic without getting overpowered.

Everybody gets something cool at 6th (even if it's just their feat). Fighters are tough enough to last, lots of monsters can be taken on, and the real adventure can just roll. I've previously run games capped at 6th and it was a blast.

Ninth! Solid abilites by then in every class, enough breathing room to allow most prestige classes, good number of feats, your first two ability bumps, and I just plain like that mix of power and squishyness.
