If you had to cut two core races from your game....

Dwarves and Gnomes. Dwarves because they just don't appeal to me, and gnomes because they have those spell-like abilities that seem out of place in a core race. Elves narrowly made the cut.

Half orcs, because I did, and the first vote to cut Humans!! I'm so proud.

Gnomes and half-orcs. Gnomes because I've not found a variant that didn't annoy me in some way or another (and half the time they end up being played as psuedo-halflings anyway). Half-orcs because I never see anyone play them, mostly because the people I've played with don't like playing stupid (or perceived as stupid) characters.

Halflings could go, too, without many tears being shed.

Halfling, dwarf. I say this b/c it seems those two races never really show up at all in our games. Gnomes are allowed to remain b/c they make great kickballs for our NE thief.

Gnomes and half-orcs for me.

I started with 2E, and half-orcs weren't in the PHB then, so I'm quite used to the idea of a D&D without them, save maybe as the occasional NPC. As for gnomes, they've never really seemed to have an archetypal feeling to them (save for Dragonlance's tinker gnomes), and while I like them being there, I don't think it'd be that much of a loss if they were removed.

I'd kick gnomes because I prefer them more in the pixie-esque aspect, and elves. Then I would promptly cut the mechanics of the half-elf, cut and paste the elf mechanics on half-elves, and be done.

I've done this before.

I've already cut half-orcs and halflings from my game, but cutting half-elves instead of halflings would be OK.

I could lose gnomes and helf-elves; gnomes because very few people play them (in my group) and half-elves because they contribute very little in terms of overall flavor. You could say elf and human crossbreeds favor one parent or the other, and you could make a halfling subrace that's cosmetically gnome-like and I don't think it would matter.

Boo-hiss on all the half-orc haters, by the way. (Though its not unexpected. My kind have grown used to the petty hatred of the "civilized" races.)
