If you had to cut two races from the game....

Halflings and Gnomes; also for the "I hate small weapons and armor" reason. Beyond that, they're just annoying: they always end up being played as Kender and Tinker gnomes. *shudder* That's the only thing I dislike about Dragonlance, really. Afflicted Kender and Thinker Gnomes > True Kender and Tinkers.

I chose Dwarves and Elves. Mainly because I'm running Warhammer right now with a houserule that PCs can only be human. Eliminating Dwarves and Elves gets me 2/3 of the way there. I guess I'll just have to think of Halflings as "short humans". :D

I've already cut half-orcs and halflings from my game,

Hey, I was going to say that! Though half-orcs have been more replaced then cut.

But as for gnomes, they are the one race I wouldn't cut. Its all about the gnomes.

half-orcs and half-elves.

The presentation that they are given is pretty lax although I do not have anything against half races.

If you want to play a half race go for it, you look like a combination of the two. Pick one of your parents, you most favor them, get their racial abilities.

Done! No thousands of extra statistics blocks for all of the halfbreeds possible and you can choose most anything.

Gnome is already on the chopping block in my campaign and dwarves might as well be, too, given the region they are in. I could live fat and happy just with Humans and Elves, myself.

Half-Elf and Half-Orc should have been heritage feats templated onto a human. They really should have just put Orcs in the phb instead of spinning half-orcs into a race. As a proper elf-hater, half-elves should only exist to show that humans are superior of course. Halflings could probably do with a chop as well, the spell-like abilities of Gnomes are more interesting and they can do any of the "little-people" archetypes just as well.

Hey there redrobed ... just hafta say I like the avatar update!

[Bows to all present in apology for this brief thread hijack!]

Kill the half-races!

I'm in the "nix the half-races" crowd... Half-Elves and Half-Orcs should go... Partly because interbreeding of species doesn't really have its roots in realism. Even if an orc and human could produce offspring, those offspring would be sterile.

You can't nix halflings unless you're going to change the entire theme of D&D. It's heavily Tolkien based and the halflings serve as a grounding factor to that history and flavor.

Gnomes could go one way or the other. I don't have much personal use for them.

Dwarves and Elves are the cornerstone races, IMO. I'd cut Humans first.

Halflings. I actually told my players that in my campaign world all the halflings were massacred because they were created by fiends forcing unnatural breeding habits. At least that's what I said when I was asked if halflings were playable.

Half-elves/Half-orcs. I've never like either of these hybrids to begin with.

As for Gnomes? I love gnomes, to a point. They're rare in my world. Most of the ones who don't live in dwarven communities are either little savages or nomadic tribes (often both).
