If you had to cut two core races from your game....

I can only pick two? :(

I'd vote for half-elves and half-orcs first. Both would be better represented as a feat which would have to be taken at first level - lo and behold, removing the human bonus feat for some nice abilities. :) Also, they're by far the worst mechanically and the half-orc in particular could use strengthening if it had to stay.

I wouldn't mind seeing only one 'small' race, but I'd much rather have the Arcana Evolved faen than either gnomes or halflings. If I had to choose between the two I'd pick gnomes. Alternately, kobolds.

Gnomes: They have no place / niche, and everyone knows that a gnome is a type of earth elemental.

Elves: I'm still traumatized from the "master race" incarnation of elves. There was a time when you would be foolish to not play an elf, mechanisticly. (Was that 2e?) It became a running joke in our campaigns that elves were the master race. So, we killed them. All of them. Drow too, smug little perverts.

I don't have much use for the half-races, either. I don't mind PC races gettin' it on, but the children have to choose one or the other mechanicistic benefits. You can look like whatever, however.

Humans are powerful and flavorless. Dump em.

Half-elves are not quite as powerful and almost as flavorless. Dump em, too.

Half-orcs can be fixed, a little bit, so that they can stand opposite true elves.

Where is the gnome love!?

They are my favorite race after humans ... except they aren't done right sometimes. So what.

Svirfneblin. They are a nice alternate if you don't like the mainstream gnome. Their culture more than makes up for WotC's and TSR's gnomish blandness (or utter crap ... tinker gnomes anyone?)

My main gripe........favored class BARD?!? @(#$:^ Illusionist is a sacred cow they didn't need to eat.

C.I.D.

PS - I voted for Gnomes and Half-orcs (ironically). Based on standard D&D and Tolkien emulation, they make the least difference. Half-elves are kept, I wholly agree with those who think they got shafted in 3E.

I voted gnomes (would like them combined a bit with halflings) and half-elves (too close to elves). I'd like the "Half-" cut from orcs also.

I'd replace them with something akin to goliaths (a powerful build race) and an aquatic race (aventi from Stormwrack), but thats me.

Elf - and therefore half-elf.

If I could have elves and half-elves removed in a twofer, my other choice would be halfling.

I think gnomes, in Third Edition, are much more interesting.

Of course, now that I have Eberron's take on elves and halflings, I wouldn't want to give them up - but with the core flavour and Tolkienesque heritage? Getouttaheah.

Yea, tell me about it. I run a humanocentric campaign and can't wrap my mind around the "affirmitive action" style of party make-up that goes on except in situations like LOTR where it was 'necessary.' I'm not a probability guy..but it's highly improbable :)

I'd ditch:
Gnome (make it part of halfling)
Half-elf (make it either full elf stats or full human stats or nothing)
Half-orc (like half-elf)

I dont' particularly care for 'elvthes" but I can't justify cutting them ;)
