To be chaotic evil they have to do evil for *purely* no reason whatsoever.

Rubbish. By your daffynition, a tree that falls down and crushes somebody is chaotic evil. It had no reason to fall, it just fell. Fire is chaotic evil if it burns someone to death. It had no reason, it just burned.

We like to take the simple-minded tack that "evil" == "nasty-wasty-oo-oo-oo" and "good" == "nicey-purty-yum-yum-yum", but the world doesn't work that way.

Now that I am an adult I am rather sad at what I did, and would be very upset of seeing my children doing that for example. But at the time, it was pure inconsequence, not thinking at anything but the idea just appears funny on the moment.

Haven't you been reading this thread? Mercy is EEEEEEEEEEEEEVILLLL!!!!!!

Only VENGEANCE, bloody, violent, painful VENGEANCE is good!

what? You consider a tree falling and crushing someone evil? You consider fire evil? I was under the impression that those are natural acts and inherently neutral. Could you call the acts chaotic-neutral? Yeah, you could, they aren't adhering to any specific sense of rule or law if they just fall for some odd reason. Now, if there were a reason behind it (which there always is, biologically or physics) it would be lawful-neutral. I think you missed my point. I don't see how anything can be chaotic neutral, because it implies a lack of cause or reason, when everything we understand does have cause or reason. I agree that demons, in dnd, could be chaotic evil because they are *alien* to our world and ignore most laws and rules of reality. I do not see that being the case with humans. And if you have read any of my posts previously, you would know that I, for one, do not take your nicety-yum-yum view od anything, in fact, I personally do not believe in good and evil, but we were talking dnd alignments here, where there are narrow rules.

Moderator's notes: Let's all take a few deep breaths before posting further on this subject: it's hard, frankly, to find something that rouses more passion than cruelty to animals or children, and though we need to respect that, we also need to respect each other here.

I thought Dogbrain was joking on that comment, so I took it that way. I've been surprised how evenly this subject has been handled here so far. No yelling or calling names for the most part, that's pretty impressive, lol, specially lately.

No, I think you're right, and maybe I shouldn't have quoted him on that; consider that more of a preemptive request for folks to remember to stay civil even in the face of such a crime.

I think it's simple - the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. A single stupid kid would probably never do anything like this, it's when two or more stupid kids get together things like this happen.

No prob:) I agree, tensions can run high when something like this happens, it's such a sad thing and so utterably human that it always makes people feel a little guilty I think, we know that we're the only thing in nature that could do something like this and it's hard to not lash out when one has to think about that.

[snipped] out of respect

Kaleon, it'll probably be perceived as overly sensitive, but our ban on religion here extends to discussion of paganism. Just as we'd ask someone Christian not to end their posts with "God watch over you" or something similar, I'll respectfully ask you not to end your posts with a paganistic blessing either. I know you had no agenda, but it's all part of fairness and keeping peace in a multi-faith setting.

Thanks. :)

Not a problem, i had seen people numerous times end with either as a wish you well kind of thing, sorry if i over stepped, didn't read that as being a specific ban. My apologies, it will be edited
