Is there any way to make an unarmed attack ignore DR, other than the level 16 monk ability? Feats, items, whatever, thanks in advance

The Book of 9 Swords has several manuevers that allow you to ignore DR (mostly stone dragon ones) but that's obviously no where near core.

What kind of DR are you trying to bypass?

Magic Fang can get you past Magic DR.

I don't believe there is anything you can do to bypass material DR types (silver, cold iron, adamant, etc)

I DO believe there are ways to allow an unarmed strike to bypass Lawful, Chaotic, Good, and Evil DR, but I can't remember off the top of my head. I know "Align Weapon" doesn't cut it, because you can't cast that on a natural weapon, just like "Magic Weapon". I believe there are some spells or abilities somewhere else that you can do it though. I'll try and find it.

The splat spell "Align Fang" in the Druids of the Coast Spell Compendium would let you get past alignment DR. I hate the spell because IMHO the inability to deal with alignment DR should be a weakness of the druid.

In general, class abilities. Monk has its Ki Strike, which lets it breach DR of magic, lawful, and adamantine eventually. Some Prestige Classes have Ki Strike for silver, cold iron, holy/unholy, etc. I don't *think* there are any feats for that, though the Water Splits Stone feat from PHB2 helps you get past it, doing +4 damage when you have DR that you can't breach.

If your allowed Complete Divine stuff
Gauntlets of the Talon, Fists overcome DR/magic and do 1D8 damage, monks have AC and unarmed damage and ki strike as if +5 levels (this effect may stack with Monk's Belt), ghost touch ability, +4 to grapple checks.

Unfortunatly to use it you have to worship bahumet, have the True Believer feat and have 7HD (though with the Monk belt you may have 2 HD plus 5 phantom levels from the belt)

The only problem would of course be finding a sacred relic of bahumet. It would be far simpler to carry a kama's designed to overcome the most common DR's.

Granted as someone stated this lack of DR smackdown is intentional.

There's a feat in (I believe) races of stone that lets your unarmed attack overcome some sort of material based DR. Can't remember which type off hand.

And there's one elsewhere which lets it count as slashing/piercing as well as bludgeoning.

I know "Align Weapon" doesn't cut it, because you can't cast that on a natural weapon, just like "Magic Weapon".
Well, it would work on even a 1st level monk.

Right. One level of Monk allows you to treat your unarmed strike as either a natural or manufactured weapon for effects that affect one or the other.

So: Silversheen would work on a Monk's strike, as would Oil of Bless Weapon. :)
