I'm (finally) a Dad!

Well I got to experience my first "fun" night with the baby. I had been at the hospital with Mrs Olaf every day but I didn't stay over, instead leaving at about 11pm each night.

Yesterday Sophie had a 3 hour and 4 hour nap during the day. Come 11pm, she decided that she wasn't tired anymore and decided to grizzle for most of the night. I can't remember a lot of it as it was all a bit of a sleepless haze but she just never really settled.

She didn't really want to feed, didn't seem to have much wind and we kept checking her nappy in case that was the problem. It needed a couple of changes but it was normally clean and dry. I think it was just the first night home trouble that apparently a lot of babies get. Having said that, Mrs Olaf did say that this was the fun times I missed out on at the hospital.

So do my experiences mirror most peoples?

I'm expecting the fun to continue tonight but she is still worth it. :D

Yep. That's about how it goes sometimes.

If she's really not hungry, you may have a chance to earn husband points forever (and even help yourself out) by holding her up on your shoulder and walking around with her. I don't know if it's just the stimulation of seeing new things, or the motion of gently rocking while you walk, but walking around with the baby can often help her fall asleep -- and if it doesn't, well, that's at least a half-hour where the wife gets to sleep, and she's probably getting less than you are these days. :)

Good luck. It's not like that forever.

Well last night was about 100 times better than the night before. Sophie only woke up about 4 or 5 times. The first time she woke up at about 11:30pm and I was able to just cuddle her back to sleep.

The other 3-4 times she wanted a feed so my wife was kind enough to do that and let me keep sleeping. I had her asleep on my stomach in bed this morning for an hour or so, which was nice.

We'll see how she goes tonight but I think that the first night was just her getting used to her new surroundings and everything else. Despite the sleepless nights it is all worth it when she is soundly sleeping in your arms. :)

Congrats Olaf and Mrs Olaf :) Welcome to the world Sophie :) She is beautiful! I had a feeling you were having a girl.
Dshai felt the same when he found out we were having a girl with Kylee. He was a little disappointed for about a second, but she immediately became daddy's little girl after she was born. To the point that I think he was a little disappointed that we didn't have another little girl. I am glad to hear that the birth went well despite the pain (tell the mrs I commiserate; inductions are terribly painful). It is great though that the vag birth was successful and that breastfeeding is going well. I hope that it continues smoothly. Korbin and I had some speed bumps but now that he is a month old, I think that we have settled into a good rhythm with it. Speaking of which, he is hungry now! Congrats again!

So this is what happens when I get too busy to read Off Topic for a long week :D

Congratulations and welcome to the happy familylife. Hopefully the little lady have setteled in to Australian timezones. Sleeping at day and being awake at nigh seems like she should have been born in Europe ;)

(And she does look sweet.)
