I'm new to Angel, but wtf?

That's something I forgot about, John. Plus,
hadn't Amber Benson only recently gotten an opening credit when Tara bit it?
I'd have to go back and check to know for certain.

Well to each his own. I liked Hero...and I certainly believe Joss didn't just off Doyle just because of possible innuedo about drugs. (Though I will admit for the possibility.)

That sounds right. Fans were clamoring for that character to get into the opening credits for some time before it actually happened.

That's so unbelievably messed up. How very Joss-ish.

Anyone remember what Glenn Quinn (the actor who played Doyle) died of?

I remember the first time I saw him on Angel. I thought, "That dude from Roseanne does a mean Irish accent." Funny, all those seasons I saw him on Roseanne, I had no idea he WAS Irish.

I have the 1st Buffy Season on DVD, and in the comments he said he first wanted to take Xanders friend into the openingcredits of the show, even though he would die in the first episode, just to shock the viewers. But making two different credits would have been to costly (and the first season was really "cheap"...).

From what I recall from the rumours at the time Doyle was written out of Angel because of his drugs/booze habit and the problems it was causing with filming etc. Also a number of the scripts from later in the season had to be written as they included Doyle..which points to his departure not being part of the plan at that point.

I also found this:

The cause of death, which is what everyone seems so curious about, is going to stay private, out of respect to Glenn and his family. It is true to say that it was definately an accident. Glenn was a man with great determination, and a huge heart, he did not take his own life

IIRC, she appeared in the credits starting with the last episode she appeared in.

And IIRC, Joss had been on record as always wanting to do that to a "main character". If so, it's both a bone tossed to her fans, as well as a a bit of wish-fulfillment on his part.

if i'm not mistaken, tara was put in the credits, taken back out and then put it again as a cruel tease when they killed her off. they added, removed, and added lorne to the credits on angel in the past too and had me fearing for his life when they re-added him at the end of last season.

joss has definitely said he had plans to kill doyle off all along, whether or not it was supposed to be episode 6 i dunno. but since doyle couldnt even carry wesleys jockstrap, whats the problem?
