Seriously, think about it folks. 4E warrants a HUGE change, like 3E was to 2E, right? Well what more can you do in 4E that will make it so vastly different and improved than 3E...without destroying its "sacred cows"?

It could make magic items a lot less important , make the base classes flexible and not foist magic on several that don't need it.

I hope 4e is a bomb. I truely hope it is not better than 3e. That way, I can complain about the new edition and act elitist towards any new players who started playing D&D with 4th edition, and then I can amaze and subdue them with my talk of how things were better in the fabled history of 3rd edition, and how we did things different, and carved dice from soap, walked 10 miles in the snow to play D&D, and loved the ancient but now disappeared OGL.

Yep, those will be good days to remember these days. I will remember them well. :)

I'm really happy with 3.5, I have a ton of money invested in it, and have been playing it for a long time. I don't care about 4E. I'm sure it will be awesome and really cool, but I don't think I'm going to spend 100 + dollars on it when I already have a great game.

Anyone else with me?
Gamers are a funny bunch. I don't know whether it's just being cheap, or just poor financial management skills, but as hobbies go, getting years of value out of a $100 investment is pretty economical. I mean, if you own a car, think about how many hundreds of dollars goes into that investment on a monthly basis.

But whatever. People think they'll never change until the time comes.

Back when 3E was being first talked about, I was pretty skeptical. The Player's Option books had rather soured me on the direction of R&D at TSR and I was resolved not to go with a game that went too far in that direction. Then I started reading Eric Noah's 3e News site and became convinced that the game would be good... and it was. The 3x family is now my favorite version of D&D, without a doubt.
Based on that experience, I'm willing to keep an open mind about 4e. I might not be an early adopter since we are currently having plenty of fun with 3.5, but I'll certainly investigate it.

No. 3E works in most respects. All it needs is 'tweaking'. 4E will still be d20. There will still be classes and levels, a plethora of monsters and magic items.

If it cuts down on prep time over 3.x, then I'm sold instantly, or in a period of time as short as it takes to stat out a high level NPC wizard.
