In the Names of the Fathers - [d20 Cthulhu]

Rushing to the phone Sharrel lifts it to her ear. Frantically she starts talking afraid for these who were like surrogate parents to her.

"Hello, Hello? Call 912, this is an emergency, the Hadley's didn't answer their door and the back door was broken into. Please call the cops and send them here, please. I am one of his advisees I came over to check up on him, and his house is broken into."

Shane takes note

Shane sits bolt upright in his chair at the panicky voice on the other end. "Who... who is this? What's g-g-go... what's going on? Where are Martin and Eliz... abeth?" As he speaks he flips his legal pad to a blank page, leaving behind the notes and doodles from his discussion with Moira. Whether it's chit-chat or a dire emergency, every phone conversation finds him writing. He usually does this absently, so what he writes may be doodles or utter nonsense, but his hands can't stand being idle. That's just one of many reasons why he refuses to carry around a cell phone. He discards the worn pencil for a sharpened one from the mug on his desk, and by the time the girl starts talking again, he's already written:

912 EMERGENCY
Hadley - Break in

[OOC: Have Shane and Sharrel met?]

"Do you know where the house is, the address? My roommate Cynthia and I are here checking up on him, and Mrs. Hadley. Cynthia went upstairs to check it out. If you can call the cops I am going to hang up and go see if I can help." Click.

Sharrel begins to look around for any sign of the Hadleys. Starting in the kitchen, and eventually she will head to where ever it was Cynthia did.

"Cynthia? Anything? Proffessor? Mrs. Hadley?" She shouts in her singing voice, loud enough to wake the dead(no thats not a hint).

Shane blinks at the suddenness with which the conversation ended. The girl--is she a student here?--sounded on the verge of panic. He feels his own heartrate starting to pick up. He deliberately re-reads his notes: "912 EMERGENCY, Hadley - Break in, No answer". Right now that's all he knows. The Hadleys hadn't answered the door, the girl found that the house had been broken into and went inside, where she answered his call. No reason to panic yet. A break-in and no answer most likely means the Hadleys have left for some reason and someone robbed them while they were gone. He feels his pulse beginning to slow. Going inside probably isn't the smartest thing for a young co-ed to do, but he has to admire her courage.

He picks up the phone. Rather than calling the Boston police right away, he dials the number for the Campus police. There is a good chance that someone on the force knows the Hadleys, and they are likely to be a bit more sympathetic to their friends' concern.

"Hello, p-p-police? This is Dr. McDonald. I'm a bit worried about Dr. Had-Hadley. He hasn't been a-ar-arou... he hasn't been in lately, and when I trie...d calling his home, one of his students answered. She said she went t-t-to check on him, but found his home broken into, and no sign of him or his wife. C-c-could you send someone to check? I have the a-ad... the address."

"'Ai'ight Granny, be there in a minute. Love ye." he finished as he hung up. He looked around the messy room for some clean clothes. He needed to take a quick shower. He hadn't had one in a couple of days.

A few minutes later, he came out of the shower and grabbed some clothes, slung on his coat and reached under the head of his bed to get his two guns. Never leave home without them. Xander wasn't a very big guy. He wasn't very active, at least as far as heavy labor goes. Having been beaten up more than once in his life, he vowed that it would never happen again.

Some would call him paranoid, but in his line of work, you never know when things could go bad. He still remembered what happened to that young girl. He knew how evil people could be. The events of the last month had taken a toll on his mind. Xander would not be a victim. Paranoia had become a way of life.

Strapping on both weapons, he gathered a few other things and grabbed his keys. On the way out he remembered what Granny Martha had said, and grabbed the hot water maker. He smiled to himself. The old woman was amazing.

The Hadleys' 12:55
Sharrel calls out, but gets no response, she rushes through the house, looking at the rooms downstairs before running up the steps. Nothing looks out of order. The TV and Stereo are in the den where they're are supposed to be. When she gets upstairs, she sees Cynthia, to the left, standing in an open doorway, staring into the room.
Sharrel walks up behind her, noticing that once again, nothing seems out of place. In the bedroom, it is a different story. The bed has been torn apart, mattress and all. The sheets and curtains are charred, as is the carpet. In addition, the entire room smells of bile, and in various places around the room, in a vaguely circular pattern, there are heaps of solidified vomit. Most of the rest of the furniture is overturned, though mostly intact, save some scorch-marks. The east window(the direction you are now facing) has a pair of scorched palm prints that appear to drag along the surface to the floor. The glass has also melted somewhat, leaving the impressions of someone's hands clawing at the pane.

Tay-dor can't read the blue, so Shane's color will now be orange.

Dr. McDonald's Office 12:55
The campus police force is small, only six officers. Shane recognizes the voice of Richard Meeks, the officer in charge of the department, on the other end, "Campus Police, how can I help you?" Meeks is a big, friendly man. He is a graduate of Miskatonic himself, the class of '90.
He listens attentively while Shane explains the problem. "Certainly, I'll head over there myself. Would you mind coming along, Professor? The students would probably feel better with someone else there, besides me. I can pick you up in the campus police cruiser outside your building." He pauses for a moment and Shane can hear typing, "Caldwell Hall, right?"

Black Tea and Blacker Souls 12:55
Martha looks into the back of the store as Xander comes down the steps, beaming at her grandson. She gives him a hug and pats him on the shoulder as she takes the hot water maker from him and begins filling it with water from the faucet behind the counter. She opens a cabinet, full of various teas, and scans it while the water runs.
Martha loves tea. She has everything from Assam to Earl Grey, the real stuff too. From her younger days, she has friends in India and the stuff comes to her once a month in neat little packages.
She smiles at a customer and then looks back at Xander, "Tea? I believe I'll be having a cup of Darjeeling."
She glances up and then motions Xander to look at one of the mirrors in place to stop shoplifting. He sees a teenager, the boy could have been himself 5 or 6 years ago, dressed all in black. He sees the boy slip a book into the back of his pants, and hide it beneath his leather jacket.

"Cyn...are you okay." Sharrel asks as she slips up next to her. She gives her friend a hug, while looking over the room.

"I don't know what happened, but it doesn't look good. The cops should be on their way, maybe we should wait outside? Cyn?" she gives her friend's hand a squeeze, and will try to lead her out of the house to wait.

[OOC: The boards are finally back up. About time, too.]

Shane does a quick mental rundown of his schedule. He doesn't keep a scheduler or one of those gadgety Palms, but he keeps good track of things in his head. His only class today was in the morning, and he doesn't have any appointments this afternoon. He was going to spend the day working on a paper, and running down a few sources concerning a Babylonian idol he inherited from his father. He thinks it may be one of the pieces that went missing from the Kabul museum. Too bad the government is so intolerant: it may not be possible to return the piece. Nothing's particularly urgent about either of those. In fact, the most urgent business he has today is with Kathryn, and he doesn't mind putting that off a bit.

Shane says, "I d-don... don't mind coming, Richard. I'll meet you around b-ba-ba...ck, in the parking lot." As he hangs up the phone, he checks his legal pad:

912 EMERGENCY
Hadley - Break in
No answer
Campus Police - Richard Meeks
Going over

Shane stands, pulling on the overcoat he had just taken off during his conversation with Moira. It seemed very warm then for some reason. He tears the sheet out of his legal pad, folds it carefully, and places it in his pocket. Leaving his briefcase where it is, he locks the door behind him as he leaves.

Cynthia snaps out of it when Sharrel hugs her. She shakes her head, as if to clear it, "I.. I think you're right. We'd better wait outside. I haven't touched anything in here. Maybe the police can figure out what happened."

As she walks down the stairs behind Sharrel, she sways suddenly, and almost falls, barely catching herself on the railing. She recovers and motions Sharrel to move faster. Once they're out the back door, she falls to her knees in the brown grass and vomits, holding her hair out of her face with her left hand, her right pressed against the cold ground.

When she finishes, she looks at Sharrel and whispers one word, "Evil," before she passes out.

Outside Caldwell Hall 1:00 PM
The walk down the stairs is uneventful. Shane sees a pair of his students who nod their heads in greeting as they walk up the stairs to class. When he gets outside, he has to wait a minute for the Police cruiser to drive up to the back of the building.

When Shane gets in the car, Richard shakes his hand, "Good to see you again, Professor. How's the semester going?"..."Got anything interesting going on?"... "I heard it from the grapevine that you were seen on Friday night with Kathryn Motts...?"

The fifteen minute drive is filled with Richard trying to make conversation, It's pretty clear that he isn't too worried about Professor Hadley's absence or the apparent break-in.

The Hadleys' 1:15
As you drive up, you see a Kia parked by the curb and Professor Hadley's rusted Volvo wagon sits inthe driveway. The house looks undisturbed and has a kind of pleasant serenity about it.
...

[OOC: If Sharrel wakes Cynthia up and takes her around front, you'll also see two girls, but that will have tio wait until Shalimar's response.

"Cyn! Cynthia, wake up, are you ok?" She cries out trying to lift her friend into a position out of the vomit.

Did she see something I missed in there? What really happened in there to poor Mrs. Hadley? Thats not right. This just isn't fair. She thinks to herself sitting down in the grass next to Cynthia. She tries to clear her mind and nostrils of the horror, breathing shallowly, with her head in her hands shaking.
