D&D (2024) Influence Action

Stalker0

Legend
Finally got the skinny on the influence action. Works as follows:

  • If the request is something the creature would just do, no check is just succeeds
  • If the request is something repugnant to the creature, or against their alignment, no check it just fails. (aka no 30 persuasions to convince someone to kill for you just because you talk that good).
  • If they are "hesitant", its a DC 15 or Intelligence score of the target (whichever is higher). Check depends on what method you are using (intimidation, persuasion, deception, etc).

So seems a lot cleaner and simpler than some of the Playtest rules. I don't hate this, I think it reinforces the DM purviews to just have certain creature unwilling to do certain things no matter how convincing the party is, but provides reasonable DCs for most of the middle ground work. I am suprised they choose Intelligence rather than wisdom for this, wisdom has generally been the discerning stat (and insight is based on it).

First bullet point. Yep. Second bullet point. Yep. Been doing all along.

Third bullet point... I dislike this with the searing criticism of the sun's UV over the North Pole.

I also don't like the static DC. At least provide mods for hitting the NPC's bonds, ideals and flaws.
It really feels like leverage should make a significant difference here. Like, what are you offering/threatening/promising, and how are you doing it. I guess DMs could apply Advantage/Disadvantage, but it seems like varied DCs should be a thing too, not just INT scores.
