Wills are more of a modern custom, in most historical societies inhertiance was determined strictly by law and tradition. Wills, if they existed, were only an option for people who lacked primary heirs.

Plenty of possible reasons:
  • She's confident she can maintain control anyway.
  • She doesn't want to marry a landless man of lesser status, since that would reflect poorly on her own status
  • The marriage have been set up by her parents.
  • She prioritizes building the most powerful family possible.
  • She doesn't particularly care for rulership.
Those are 5 good possibilities. What do you think of the 3 possibilities that I thought of

The 1st is that she's A Magic User and is planning to use Charm Person on her husband

The 2nd is that she's found out that in A few months time the law will change so that the oldest child gets everything and she's planning to use and time the marriage so that the wedding happens the day after the law changes. that way her husband won't learn that she gets the inheritance not him until its too late

The 3rd is that the person she's in love with is nice enough, kind enough and loves her enough that even though the official records show that he rules her families lands in truth she rules her families lands

Those are all credible motivations for your character! Using mind-control magic on a family member is likely to backfire sooner or later, but nothing says your characters have to be risk averse.
