Well, considering an alliance with Einar is not the best course, having another heir to Grandael might be useful. In a way it's the only manner the previous engagement could be broken. Considering Alec would rather marry his daughter for love instead of politics - or am I wrong?

Yes, yes, I understand that, but based on that, the main plot of the game seems to be "Let's make sure Astrid marries the guy she wants to marry." That's fine, and can work if the other guy puts up a bigger fight, but in all seriousness, there's no indication so far that Einar is anything but a noble person. It seems weak to just say "Oh shucks, I'd rather marry this guy, I guess I'll break my engagement and go back on my word." Then the story becomes about someone who decided they didn't like a promise they made and everyone is trying to help her get out of the consequences of her actions. I don't feel that's something Alec would want. He wanted her to follow her heart, but I don't see him teaching her that her heart can just override her word simply because she wants it to.

No, that is a subplot. That is something the characters fight about and discuss while pursuing the actual plot. There needs to be a goal the characters want that they can only get if they help each other, and relationships can be explored as they try to achieve their goals.

That, of course, is the DM's preview. I can tell you right now that Alec will come in with a mind to take his daughter to Einar. When he finds out about the other guy, he will not be happy. So, I suppose the DM is going to need to bring up something that'll make him change his mind. I've got some ideas (like the baby that was taken) but that starts to fall in to the DM's realm, and actually, I'd like to see how it plays out.

Well, I have... a few cards in my sleeve, lol. But I get your point, and you're right about the plot. I'm curious as to Alec's interest in this particular union. Why not one of King Einar's sons in place of Einar Volundson? Why not someone from Avar or Göttland for that matter? I guess that if we define this we can establish possible alternatives for his opinion on the matter. So far I believe he'd only want to go through with a promise, despite any other advantages he might view in the future.

No. okay. I thought this would play out in the game, I am sorry for not going over ALL of this earlier as we were eating dinner.

Both Thorir and Eben know that Einar is NOT a noble person. He's actually very far from it. I am not positive of all the details (I don't actually prefer to know everything OOG) we REALLY NEED Fenris to chime in here but I believe Thorir has information or is going to get the information shortly through his channels that EINAR IS PART OF THE CULT. It's in my background. HE WANTS ASTRID FOR THIS REASON.

Therefore, we do not want Astrid to be married to him. No more babies donated to the cult!!!!

I *believe* once Astrid sees Eben she won't be as much as a prisoner as she started as. She tells Eben the story and that he's a father and his baby is missing. He goes to his brother. Together they use their channels to find out WHY Einar was so insistent to marry Astrid. They confirm Einar is a cult member.

Astrid wants his head on a platter BUT could he possibly possibly lead to her baby? Don't know. We decide as a group from there. Try to kill him outright, infiltrate, whatever. I don't know.

Eben is Astrid's baby's father. Of course he is going to help. Technically Thorir is an Uncle. She wants as many people as possible to hunt cult members and who knows what she'll have to do to get her baby back, which is her #1 goal, she's been at it for THREE YEARS. So yes, she wants baby's Daddy and Uncle as free, motivated labor. Plus her father's army plus whomever else she will get along the way. She thought she was going to have Einar's army so...

Is this clearer?

Yeah, all that came through quite well in thw backstory as well as the post. Thanks for clearing it out Queenie! From then on, there are several events that might make the true intentions of Einar more evident, maybe bringing Alec towards Thorir and Eben's cause. Nothing set in stone, of course! :)

I know all that. Alec doesn't know any of that. The main problem is figuring out where to start. Unfortunately, were thinking like writers, not gamers. If I were writing this in a book, I'd start the story before Astrid leaves, as she and Alec are talking about her decision, and cut to Eben and Thorir on a boat, getting ready to...do Viking things. I'd write all that out, see how things go. Then continue.

I think where we are starting is fine. Astrid's on the boat, Alec is at home. Even and Thorir raid her ship. Alec can play in a PM with the DM or something, since he's away, and he can catch up. He'll be able to find y'all.

I did try to establish in my background she's been getting offers but just trying to push it off to anyone. She doesn't want to get married but she knows she has to eventually. She just wants her baby back and to go live in peace but she'll raise an army to get there ;)

I would have done that too, honestly. I thought we WERE doing that awhile back. If you'd like, you and I can have a conversation with Astrid and Alec and her leaving home. In another thread. Let's do that. He can give her all the fatherly advice on getting married ;)

Meanwhile I DO think Eben and Thorir should be on THEIR ship talking about their Vikings stuff being all Viking-y. Gives everyone leisurely time to get into character.

Alec doesn't NEED to know almost any of that other stuff, he wouldn't know it yet. Astrid doesn't know most of it yet either.

She's going to get kidnapped. It's contrived, yes. Just go with it.

He'll show up to save his daughter. He'll come. We'll all be together. He'll want to kill everyone. She'll stop him. I promise. It will work. Okay? It will work.

AB, can we do a couple of other threads do you think? Are you cool with that? Then everyone can play and we can all do Viking things and be happy. :D
