Internet Grammar Pet Peeves

I've seen books introduced by a "Forward" before. It makes me cringe in embarrassment for the author.

Pet peeve 2: Grammatical incorrectness for the sake of political 'correctness' but I won't expand due to the rule against political discussion on these boards.

If someone has a problem with it, they can let us know their concerns... ;)

One that bothers me wherever it occurs- internet or RW- is the rampant use of apostrophes for plurals.

As in:

Many guns = gun's
Many Paladins = paladin's
Many dragons = dragon's

etc.

Apostrophes are for POSESSIVES, people!

Like "The Paladin's anti-dragon guns..."

(or if it were many paladins)

"The Paladins' anti-dragon guns..."

Ah, I thought of another one....

"The slaves fell prostate before their master."

I think Sipowitz (sp?) had a problem with that, too....

Later,

Atavar

It's official--warforged drool when they drink potions!!!!

There's a hymn in our church hymnal about angels going prostrate. My wife, God bless her heart, was singing next to me and incorrectly sang it as "prostate." She caught herself and then we both caught a real bad case of the giggles. Still, 1 year later, we can't help but laugh whenever that particular hymn comes up. :)

One I don't see very often, but that really makes my blood boil when I do see it, is 'walla' for 'voila'.

I'm not sure why it annoys me so much, but there you go. (Possibly because I can never remember whether it's 'voila' or 'viola', and have to look it up every time. Like when writing this post.)

It's voila. A viola is a musical instrument. A small violin IIRC. :)

What bothers me most is when people use "enormity" to denote size.
