invisibility and light

Voadam

Legend
When you go invisible any light source carried (torch, unsheathed magic weapon)still emits light. How do people run this in combat? Do you grant intelligent opponents an opportunity to strike the square in the center of the light (standard 50% miss chance for invisible opponent) or is it too tough to figure out especially if the character moves around a lot. In daylight I would think there is no chance for spotting it but in darker areas I'm thinking the light source can give away an invisible character's position (unless the area is too confined to determine the center).

I have a party with glowing magic weapons, two invisibility rings (one with a rogue who loves the invisible sneak attack option but hates to put himself to any risk) and a wizard who sometimes uses the spell on the whole party.

Carry a continual flame torch and just drop it (free action) before combat. Move on your first turn and they will be attacking the wrong square for a 50% chance to hit nothing...

Since the torch becomes visible as soon as you drop it, I doubt that would be very effective. I expect any opponent smart enough to target the light source of an invisible character would be smart enough to see that the light source was no longer in someone's possession.

Come to think of it, that might be a decent counter to an attack by someone under Improved Invisibility. If the guy was carrying a light source, he must need it, right? So snag that puppy & put it away, and put out your own lanterns and torches.

"In the kingdom of the blind ... the invisible man no longer kicks anybody's ass." :D
