[IRON DM] Spring 2004 SIGN UP HERE, Monday 12:30 PM EST

I am really looking forward to judging.

Except for that part where I have to read all of the horrible entries.

In terms of the things I will be looking for, I'd rank them:

1) Cohesive use of all ingredients (6 well-woven ingredients trumps 5 awesome uses and 1 bad use)

2) Individual use of each ingredient

3) Verisimilitude (your adventure should make sense from a player's POV)

4) Open Ended (allow for lots of player options)

5) Plot and Story

6) Fun (and other catch-alls for my gut reaction, which includes pandering to my tastes and things like brevity, grammar, and readability)

Interesting. This is pretty close to what I was anticipating, based upon your comments in the last competition, but I'm thankful that you took the opportunity to make it explicit. Cool.

No problem.

Despite having listed my preferences, I'm fairly sensitive to pandering to the judge, and it will more likely have the opposite of the intended effect.

I just want to be clear there is a difference between a conscientious adherence to what I feel should be the criteria for judging, versus blatant attempts to pander to the judge's own admitted prejudices (which in most cases should have nothing to do with the judgement).

While I don't feel prepared to compete in this one (I feel a few more years of DMing experience would help), I, as always, look forward to stealing- er, I mean, reading the ideas of the contestants!
