DiCaprio Suited For Iron?

IGN FilmForce reported a rumor that Leonardo DiCaprio is the top choice to play Marvel comic-book hero Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, in New Line Cinema's upcoming film. Although DiCaprio has reportedly not been offered the role yet, he is at the top of the filmmakers' wish list, the site said.

The film is currently being developed by Angry Films with Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar writing the screenplay. New Line has not chosen a director yet, but has slated the film for release in 2005.

Meh. DiCaprio gets mentioned for every role opeining up in Hollywood - including that of Anakin Skywalker. (Actually, he'd have been an improvement. He can act, not just whine.)

Nevertheless, I woldn't put much stock in the Leo/Iron man connection.

Why would they pick a kid for the role of Ironman?
Tony stark is like 45-50. He has many problems and I hope that they have these in the film. To do less would ruin the entire Ironman thing for me. Ironman should not be pretty or clean as far as that goes it should be somewhat dark and action packed with good effects.

Ack ack ewww NO Leo please...LOL can't even think who would make a good Ironman/Stark.

DiCaprio is 30 next year, so he's far from being a kid, and I doubt that Stark is anywhere near 50; the mustache makes him look older, but but I put him somewhere near 35ish. Though it's been years since I read Iron Man, so they've probably retconned him into an alien transvestite hula dancer or something by now.

Aw, crap! Crapity crap crap crap!

I would rather cast a female actor before I would consider Leo.

And I don't really care if he's 30, even with his pencilled-in goatee, Leo can still pass for a pretty convincing narc in high school. I mean 21 Jumpstreet: The Next Generation.

Speaking of which, I would have gone with Johnny Depp, or Robert Patrick. Heck, I may give an unemployed David Duchovny a chance to audition for the Tony Stark role.

You realize IronMan was young once as well?

They are going to have to rewrite his origin anyway- so they can use him.

I think he would be perfect for the roll. Tony is supposed to be a lady's man and Leo certainly seems to have that appeal to the female audiance.

He can also play the smug jerk well- as seen in The Man in the Iron Mask. I think he is generally a good actor.

My pick would be to build a time machine and go back to get a young Timothy Dalton, but then.. if I could go back in time, then I would probably get Richard Boone. He would have been perfect.

David Duchovny is a good choice- I had not thought of him.

The question would be what to do for a villian. IM has some of the lamest villians- and his better ones (Mandarin and Spymaster) would not work well for an origin story.

Perhaps they will use the.. *giggle* Uncanny Unicorn.
