Iron Man Movie News

Why would they pick a kid for the role of Ironman?
Tony stark is like 45-50. He has many problems and I hope that they have these in the film. To do less would ruin the entire Ironman thing for me. Ironman should not be pretty or clean as far as that goes it should be somewhat dark and action packed with good effects.

Ack ack ewww NO Leo please...LOL can't even think who would make a good Ironman/Stark.

Well, if you want a mature Stark...

Tom Selleck?
Esai Morales?
Timothy Dalton?

For a younger version...Hell, even Rob Lowe or Brendan Fraser would be better than DeCaprio.

I can't see it. For the Love of God, I just can't see it.

More to the point, I wouldn't see it.

It would be like casting Rosie O'Donnell for the part of Gandalf.

Or like casting Will smith as Galactus.

I can't think of a good actor for the look, but if anyone knows a good hollywood actor with a 1970's style Burt Reynolds or tom selleck look to them, that would be my starting point. NOT Leo Decaprio.

In Gangs of New York, he STILL looks like he's in his early 20's.

The question would be what to do for a villian. IM has some of the lamest villians- and his better ones (Mandarin and Spymaster) would not work well for an origin story.

I was thinking of Obadiah Stane, and perhaps Blacklash as a good "active" villain. Or Justin Hammer.

Iron Man's top-tier villains were more erudite, and came from wealth, same as he did. Even the Mandarin could qualify here.

How old do you think Tony Stark should be in this picture?

You people act like he was in his forties during his initial appearance. He was a pretty young guy then.

Were you people whining when Toby was picked for Peter Parker? He certainly does not look like the Peter of the recent comic books.

But- he did well for the origin of Spiderman.

Or are you people hoping for another Batman flop(all of the movies)? Where the character is already the superhero and devoid of having a character the viewer can be personally invested in/with?

Or Justin Hammer.

I forgot about him- he might work, but it will be hard form them to have a villian that could challenge Iron Man, but not conflict with the idea that this guy is a mechanical genius.

In the comic book, it is ok- because it is accepted that there are tons of super-people.

But- in a world like ours, for a guy to develop an Iron Man armor suit, that would be out of the ordinary. For his nemesis to develop an equally advanced science at the same time- well, it is possible I guess, but it would just seem a bit silly.

Mandarin could be cool (though I wonder if they would have to change his name for pc reasons), but the whole magic versus technology aspect might be a bit much. Though, I would love to see Fin Fang Foom on the big screen.

The Armor Wars would be really cool, but as a sequel. It would be a good way to introduce the Crimson Dynamo.

Oh well, I guess this will just be a "wait, hope, and see" kind of deal.

I think he should be in his early thirties, which is where I thought he was for his 1960's debut.

I don't mean to disparage Leo deCaprio, but I can't picture the "man-child" as Tony Stark. He might surprise me, but his boyish face, his rail-thin frame, and his very young voice just cannot protray Tony Stark for me. Tony stark was a playboy millionaire "man's man" of the 1960's - in some ways having the same appeal as James bond in that era.

Tobey Macguire was the perfect pick for Spider-Man - young, dark hair, thin frame and exuberant - before anyone even touched a dab of makeup to him.

It will take some seriously impressive production stills before I could see him in that part.

I would like to see them do something different for a change. I would enjoy the movie if the kept closer to the original comic than trying to completly change the story lines to be politically correct or whatever they do.

No Origin Story ..by the time this movie comes out we will be innundated by superhero movies. It may flop anyways who knows. Make it interesting and people will come see it. X-men was not an origin story was it? Hmmm interesting concept eh...

I really enjoyed Spiderman because it had a good story and they did a good job of casting. I remember all the belly aching before it came out about Toby being Peter. I think he did a phenominal job. I was surprised they changed the Gwen part of the story but it didn't really matter to me all that much in the end. If you never read that story arch you never would have known a difference. I liked it.
I also enjoyed DD and am happy they went with Michael Clark Duncan for Kingpin. Kingpin was awesome in that film. They pulled it off.

I just don't think that I could picture Leo Dicaprio as Tony Stark for a number of reasons. Leo is a good actor though. I have to laugh when I think of him as a tough guy, drunk, international spy ...umm no not Tony Stark no way.

David Duchoney is an interesting choice you guys made...He would be interesting. There are a few others that would be interesting as well.
Hammer might be interesting too.
I guess I will wait and see like the rest of you.
Later,
Darius

P.S. I think your right mid 30's is the correct age.

What about Billy Zane?

I have never seen him anything that I thought he was good in- he is fun to watch at times, but just not very good. :)

Ewan McGregor could possibly handle it, as I think about the trailer for Down With Love.

It was a combination of Shadowcat's origin and Woverine's origin with the team.

I agree. MCD was the best part of the movie- and totally underused. They should have gone through the origin of the KP- since it has an interesting parallel to DD's. It would have been nice to see his son say a line- since he became a signifigant character (The Rose).

It is a shame the rest of the movie was.. what it was.
