Socio-political subtext?

Dude, this looks to be an almost exact retelling of Iron Man becoming Iron Man. Every trailer that gets released looks better and better. If this is what happens with Marvel in charge of their own movies, then I welcome more of these.

EDIT: In fact, in regards to the whole origin thing...

[sblock]I swear I saw someone in that trailer fingering Mandarin type rings. I know he's not in the movie, but ooooooooh.[/sblock]

Exactly! So they switched it from Vietnam to the Middle East - that just reflects where the current U.S. war is being fought, nothing more needs to be read into it.

This movie looks like everything I had hoped an IronMan movie would be! My son and I will be there on opening day!

Hmm. I didn't see that. What part?

That's isn't what I was talking about but we shouldn't get into politics here lest we invoke the [whispers]banhammer.[/whispers]

The flicks got an A-List cast for a comic book movie. And it looks good. Sounds good.

And where did you see Mandarin Rings?

In the section where his former captor turns his first gen prototype plans over to the big bearded guy rubbing his knuckles.

The Mandarin is CONFIRMED as the main villain, the terrorist captors are just the opening. They sell out to the Mandarin with the partial schematics and prototypes of the Grey Suit left behind when he busts out. He then uses them to re-engineer power suits of his own.

Partially here where the Mandarin is confirmed. The rest is based solely on what's visible in the new trailer itself.

The big bearded guy is Obadiah Stane (played by Jeff Bridges), not the Mandarin. It would be cool if the Mandarin is in this (unless they decide for some strange reason to make him not Chinese), but everything I've seen or read points to the villain being Stane.

(I'm curious about that Favreau Myspace comment- it comes from 2006, so may be out of date, but then again, maybe not.)

[EDIT- Hm. Looking around a bit, looks like he's made that announcement more than once, so that's cool. Sounds like they may be building him up to be more than just the first film's villain. Still not seeing the rings in the trailer, though.)

Socio-political subtext in a story about a character who is part of the military-industrial complex who captured by enemy combatants while visiting a major US warzone? How's that not possible?

Anyways, even though I hate Iron Man (at least the current post Civil-War Marvel comics version), I can't wait to see this movie.
