D&D 5E (2024) Is 5E better because of Crawford and Perkins leaving?

It’s not a nebulous hypothetical. I don’t experience problems where the game comes down to headbutting over rules.

When it comes to disagreements about the rules we discuss them (sometimes after the session so we don't interrupt play) and the DM makes the final call. It's worked, even when I disagree with the final ruling, for decades for me and the people I play with.

There have always been and will always be issues with the rules. Even if they somehow could magically wrote crystal clear rules 100% of the time some people would still interpret them differently.

I have been playing 5.5 for 6 months now. My opinion is that it is good that Crawford left.

Personally, I will not run 5.5. If I continue with D&D, then it will be 5.0.

And, noticing how they are building more 5.0 elements into DDB makes me think that a large portion of people are sticking with the original.

I would say that it allows you to pick your spot, then change it (by a bit) after you see where everyone else is situated, including visible enemies, without anyone complaining. It's not great but it's not too bad.
I always tell players to place their characters within a range, the character with this feature would be able to move first for free. Could get them in range, or in cover etc.

Try Dragonbane or Shadowdark. People in those communities actually like the games they play, instead of whining all the time.

Maybe because both of those games adhere to a design philosophy, instead of to a marketing philosophy?

Or because everybody hates the big guy and the people that gravitate to those games feel like they need to defend what they view as the underdog.

Like D&D, hate it, something in-between I don't care. It would just be nice if we could have some threads that didn't always devolve into CORPORATIONS EVIL!!! MONEY!!! ENSHITIFICATION!!!

All companies that want to stay in business design their product with a market in mind. All companies want to make a profit.

Or maybe it's because those are small fry in the world of TTRPGs compared to 5e, and elements of "fandom" culture make it cool to junk on something when it reaches popularity with the "wrong" people.

Yeah, it’s not because of some inherent failing in the game or because the other games are somehow superior. If anything, there’s more perceived arguments because there’s simply more people playing D&D.

Those other games will be better ... for some people. Which game will be best depends on the individual and their circumstances.
