D&D had better be my favorite RPG, I certainly play it enough! :)

All-time favorite may be Grim Tales; there's just something about that game that keeps calling to me. But D&D pretty much rules the roost for me, because I can play any version of it, any time, in any shape or form. Give me a basic edition Elf, an AD&D Half-Elf Fighter/Cleric, a 2nd edition Fighter with the Swashbuckler kit, or a Halfling Druidess of Mielikki, and I'll gladly play them all to the hilt, because it's all D&D to me. :)

Hmm, there's a Billy Joel Parody in there somewhere...

Elf, Thief, Human Monk
Even if it's Dungeon-Punk
It's still D&D to me...

Nope. That would be Ars Magica, probably followed by 2nd. edition RuneQuest.

Then again, this is a D20 board, so I am amazed that the "No" vote is so large...

It doesn't surprise me too much. After all, you can be a fan of a game without it being your favorite.

I got dice older than you.

That's been done already. Here in fact. I don't have a link to the original post, and don't remember who the poster was, but here it is:

It's Still D&D To Me
(with apologies to Billy Joel)

What's the matter with the sword I'm swinging?
Can't you tell that it's too mundane?
Maybe I should buy some leather armor.
How much gold don't you have, anyway?
Where have you been hidin' out lately, honey?
You can't fight monsters 'til you spend a lot of money.
Everybody's talkin' 'bout the new game
Funny, but it's still D&D to me.

What's the matter with the horse I'm riding?
Can't you tell that it's out of style?
Should I try to raise a baby griffon?
Yes you can, but it'll take a while.
Nowadays you can't be too sentimental,
Your best bet's a half-dragon half-elemental.
Pokemount, riding dog, half-celestial dire frog,
It's still D&D to me.

Oh, it doesn't matter what they say in the papers,
'Cause it's always been the same old scene.
There's a new game in town but you can't get the sound
From a story in a magazine
Aimed at your average teen.

How about a suite of stat boosting items
And a keen holy flaming burst lance?
You could be a really great hero baby,
If you just give it half a chance.
Don't waste your money on a rod of negation,
You get more mileage from a ring of protection.
Heavy shield, animated, heavy fort, mithril plate,
It's still D&D to me.

What's the matter with the class I'm playing?
Don't you know that it got the shaft?
Should I try to play a cleric/wizard?
If you do then you must be daft.
Don't you know about the new options honey?
You get to stack your saves and your base attack bonii.
It's the next phase, new wave, balanced play, anyways,
It's still D&D to me.
Everybody's talkin' 'bout the new game
Funny, but it's still D&D to me.

I had to stop and think about this one for a long time. In the end I voted no: I like White Wolf's dice pool mechanic much better than the way D&D handles them. Also for XP, I prefer WW's granular logarithmic character improvement better than D&D's chunky classes with exponential growth.

As methods for modelling a world go, they make the most sense to me, regardless of the game's power level or genre.

I...I couldn't have said it better myself.

D&D isn't even on my top five anymore. I still enjoy it, there are just games I'd much rather play (World of Darkness, Exalted, Deadlands, Shadowrun, Mutants & Masterminds)...

Maybe it's not as much a d20 board as you think.

Or maybe some people play d20 among other things, and this is just one of many stops for them like RPGnet, wolfspoor, herogames, etc.

Most likely of all, it is a d20 board, but the question asked about D&D. Many people find certain d20 variants like true20, M&M, Grim Tales, Iron Heroes, Arcana Evolved, and d20 modern suit their tastes better.

Nope, my choice would be Ars Magica. "Ars Magica Longa, Vita Brevis," as they say.
#2 is a tie between Arcana Evolved and D&D.

I voted no. Is Windows my favourite operating system? No. Have I been using it for 8 years? Yes. My favourite remains Runequest. We'll see how the new edition stacks up.
