I think he might be trolling. Three threads in a row like this one. Another was on how dry erase markers cause brain tumors, and a third on how magic item shops are ruining the game (a known controversial topic, particularly right after the MIC comes out).

I have to agree, and this isn't the first time I've gotten this impression from his posts/topics, either. It is rather low-key trolling, at least.

If by "dead" you mean "the best product supported D&D/d20 setting", then I'd say "Yes".
