Is it just me...

*yawn*

Honestly, how many incarnations can this topic go through?

I suppose that I could say something supportive, encouraging, and inspiring but, honestly, I don't feel like wasting my time today. Probably not tommorrow, either. And chances for the day after that don't look too good. In fact, it's not in my best interests to waste my time trying to console the "poor, poor, pitiful me"'s ever.

I've seen more threads with this exact, same topic than I care to count. I've concluded one of three (or all) possibilities: a) people just really, really, really, REALLY emphatically like to moan, complain, and groan b) people keep posting threads like this in hopes that someone will be suckered into saying, "Awwww ... poor baby." or c) some people just aren't appreciative of what they have (much like possibility A, above).

So, likely, if I said something constructive, and attempted to offer my suggestions, I'd only be preaching to the choir. I might reach the people that need reaching for ... oh, a day or so.

My conclusion? Quit crying about it, grow up, and do something about it. Quit dragging the rest of us down with you by using the "Poor, poor, pitiful me. POOR ME! :( " sentiments.
The rest of us will go have fun roleplaying and you can sit over here, in the Pitiful Me corner, and cry. Sounds good to me.

You know, I think all three apply in this case.

Er.. actually my post of ... wasn't really a commentary. :)

I was deleting the post, but it won't let you delete things. So I editted it, but editting requires the post have at least three characters.

That is all.

I shall now resume my lurking about the forums.

Oh well, I guess I'm alone in my apathy again. ;_;

Mundane...

Well, we've all gathered that Operation: Extreme Redundancy is again under way. Regardless of how tired this topic of conversation is, here's my two cents:

The advice given so far is sound. It is up to the player to make it or break it. Make up your own storyline, place a post of your idea in these here handy, dandy forums, and see what comes available. Or, again reiterated, nosedive into someone else's storyline. This is roleplaying, not rocket science.

That being said, what may steer some players away from this site is aforementioned ridicule. Have any of you stepped back and thought how your asanine teasing may make a player not want to play here? Immature IC and OOC remarks may make the membership list here dwindle, if not plummet. The "I'm so cool, I can tease anyone I want because I have more experience than you" BS has got to stop. Yes, ladies and gents, some of you may be part of the damn problem.

Next on the list is the whole talking about a person behind his or her back. Yes, the targeted person does find out, and yes, that does tend to make a person feel wholly unwelcome here. If you do not like how a particular character is played...deal with it, or take your character elsewhere. Don't just sit there and badmouth him or her because your irl ethics get in the way of something wholly fictional. And if it's none of your business, be it IC or OOC, then don't get involved. Let the people already involved handle it amongst themselves. Your input won't help. In fact, it may make matters worse.

IC and OOC relations go hand-in-hand here, be it for better or for worse. It may not be the ostracized player's attitude on things...it maybe the attitudes of those in the more experienced part of the ISRP populace.

There's my opinion on things, and it stands regardless of how scathing it is. It's not entirely up to the n00bs to change things, but to everyone else as well.

Since I'm the one that mentioned the experience point, I'm going to assume that this is aimed at me, so I'll address it. How you got teasing from it, I don't know, but I might as well clarify my point on the behalf of the various players that have claimed experience brings knowledge in the past. Simply put, players who have more experience do, in fact, know what they're talking about. They know what works, they know what doesn't, and they generally have a good idea about how things came to be the way that they are.

I've seen very few 'teasing' others based on their experience here. I've seen some venting over the stream of posts about personal matters in recent months (which, I'll agree should probably have been reserved to IMs, but the same could be said for the posts that caused the frustration that was vented). I've seen the agreement of several veterans on what advice is good advice. But outright 'teasing' because they've been here longer? I think not.

It may not be the ostracized player's attitude on things...it maybe the attitudes of those in the more experienced part of the ISRP populace.
This is nothing but a scapegoat argument designed to inflame a large percentage of the regulars of this board. This isn't about "Veterans vs. Newbies". Trying to make it about Veterans vs. Newbies only adds fuel to the fire that causes many less-experienced players to reject the advice of more experienced players on the foundation of "I'm not wrong!", and only does more to divide the community.

This is about veteran players trying to offer some of their experience in order to help the less experienced players get through the problems that they've made public, and often-times having that advice rejected. Experience doesn't make anyone any better than anyone else, but it does provide the insight of accumulated knowledge which shouldn't be so lightly cast aside. And on the inversion of that point, lack of experience doesn't make anyone any worse than anyone else, but it doesn't excuse them from considering someone else's advice longer than to call it "laughable".

One thing, this post is -not- a Veterans vs. Newbies post. This is about people genuinly having a problem and not knowing what to do about it. Most of the advice given, has been used and tried on more than one occasion, I would appreciate it if every damn post would stop saying "You need to go out and do it for yourself, don't complain because you want everyone to do it for you." That as I am sorry to say, is bull. I believe that most of us posting on here, if not all of us have the intelligence of at least a cow. If not, I recommend them to consult a mental therapist or a psychologist or something of the sort ;) . We all need to think about what we are saying a little bit, for example, everyone is complaining that they have been reading a lot of these types of posts over the time and for the ones that are complaining to stop. Does that not suggest that this might actually be a serious problem? I think it could, based on what people have been saying. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but seriously, this is not just a problem with the ones complaining, most of us are at fault, if not all of us for doing these sorts of things at one time or another because it is simply just inevitable to turn someone down at some point because you are busy. Another thing that we have to consider is why people will suddenly pm you and tell you that they can't handle the storyline and that it is over, thus destroying your entire purpose of using that character. I have seen this happen quite a bit, and I believe that yes, we are all complaining maybe a bit too much, but look at what we get for just stating a few things. Thanks for your time taken to read this, and know that it is directed at everyone, not trying to point out anybody. If we are to fix this, everyone needs to cooperate and stop fighting about it, because that just makes the problem worse.
