Currently, I make an effort to buy stuff compatible with 3.5. I don't only buy such stuff, but it's a large factor in purchases.
But I wonder, with rumors increasing of 4.0 edition coming sooner rather than later (2006 seems to be a popular guess), I'm really wondering whether it's worth using this as a guiding principle. At this point, anything I buy will officially be out of date in two years. OK, you can keep playing an edition beyond that, but I'm a sort that probably will convert (like it or not
).
I have no idea how useful all my 3e stuff will be when 4.0 finally comes out. I don't mind using older stuff and converting--I'm currently running a converted Expert D&D module. But certain types of supplements, classbooks come to mind, can be very tied the edition they're published in.
So, anyone have thoughts on this issue?
