So Icewind Dale is known for "frontiersmen, pioneers, and barbarians". Do we get new subclasses for Ranger and Barbarians?

This may be irrelevant as they have changed the text for the website.

For my two pennies worth, I would consider The Sword Coast to be a setting. I’d consider the North to be a different setting. Just like I’d consider Kara-tur and Maztica to be a different setting. I don’t recognize splat books as an alternative to this.

Being on the same planet isn’t relevant. It’s more about whether the area can be looked at as a distinct area with its own sense of uniqueness.

I don't think it would have to be exclusively an adventure book. There is no rule it must be one thing only.
It has a gazetteer, like GoS, ToA and WDH etc. Such things are pretty much fluff only. SCAG already covers the uthgardt, it's possible the background from that book gets reprinted.

I am expecting the Adventure to be Icewind Dale, but not the setting. The setting is either Theros or Planescape, IMHO.
There is no setting. They eliminated that word from the announcement. The next adventure is probably in Icewind Dale to tie into the new CRPG the same way that Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus was a "tie in" to BG3. Of course, the adventure books are more than just adventures, but I wouldn't get too excited for anything more complex or deep than the Baldur's Gate information in Descent -- gazateer, some new rule widget (cold weather survival?), magic items and some monsters.

They don't normally announce the end-year book at these events, do they? I don't think it's likely we'll get a 4th book this year, with the pandemic still going on, but I think if we are to get another book, it'll be Xanathar's 2.0/Planescape

For what it's worth, I've always used the term setting to refer to a region within a world. In my current world of Novannis, I run three settings for different groups of characters.

  • Atrya Bay Setting (far north, with my own adaption of classic Blackmoor)
  • Freeeport/Isle of Dread Setting (characters live in Freeport, but often have adventures on Isle of Dread)
  • Borderlands Setting (a new six-guns and sorcery settting)

Last year, they revealed that Eberron was coming at the end of year during the event.
