If you can read the entire PHB before buying, your FLGS is awesome and the thanks should be directed at them. That's special and far from being the baseline. Expecting to have full access to all content is very much not the norm unless you are a well known reviewer who warrants free copies.
How is it special? I can read the entire PHB at my local barnes and noble too. That's still discounting the FREE Basic Rules document, as well as almost 2 years worth of playtest documents. Yeah, my local FLGS is pretty awesome. But they're not special. I've never been to a LGS that told me I couldn't read the books on their shelves unless they were plastic-wrapped.

The En5ider policy is actually quite liberal. Most times you outright sell your work and lose all rights to it. Reposting the content is effectively piracy as the content is no longer yours.
Any time you get the writing back is impressive and non-standard.

Well thanks for basically convincing me never to subscribe. It really just warms my heart to hear content creators called "pirates" when they attempt to promote their product by actually telling potential buyers anything about it.

How should I be expected to know that the class gains additional proficiency later on when none of that is indicated on the only page I can see?

You have two sources of information: A preview, and a series of reviews. You've read some of the later - you know about those additional proficiencies because of them. I posted a pretty good summary of the whole class, in this thread, which you can read. So the idea that the only information to go on is the preview was proven false long ago.

And this is how life goes for most forms of entertainment. A movie, a book, a comic book, theater, opera, a music concert, etc.. Most of the time all you have to go on is a brief preview (which sometimes reveals very little), a list of creators, and some reviews. And somehow our civilization is able to glean sufficient information from this meager set of sources to make rational decisions about what entertainment they wish to consume.

That it's not enough for you in this case, OK that's fine. That you claim it's insulting to ask about it in this poll? Silly hyperbole.

At the end of the day, you're choosing not to purchase access to the article (and 36 others) and support both a small publisher and new freelancer. Okay, that's fine. That's you're choice.

And, I reiterate, for $1. That you subscribe to and can cancel at any time. That's connected to the website that this very conversation is taking place on.

But, hey, whatever.

I am very leery of new things, if I cold buy a year sub I would bug don't really feel rightwiththe patron thing yet...

It doesn't matter if it's a dollar or a hundred. He's asking if it's a good alternative while literally telling us nothing about it. It's Schrodinger's Class!

I think I see your point, sorry.

I'm sorry for your printing restrictions, they sound ridiculous. I simply can't make a good decision (be it for a dollar or any other number) on the amount of information you're allowed to give out. If these are EN World's restrictions, then that only further disincentivises my subscribing (that's not your fault of course) Especially given that the apparent meat of your class is all in the subclass.

Oh, no, they are very nice conditions. I'm just afraid of making a mistake and want to go slowly.

Well, you could maybe buy the volume 1 (11 articles) and see if you want to be a regular supporter

(Antipaladins, divine options, adventures, rituals, weapon options and the noble class)

It's not that different from a monthly sub. Only *you* set the price per article (IIRC, the minimum is $1/article). However, you can also set a monthly cap to prevent them going crazy and releasing a dozen articles. You still get all the content above that. So, you could pledge $1/article with a cap of $5/month and be just charged that. And if one day there's an extra article, you basically get that for free. But it also means if there's a slow month you get charged less. And you can cancel any time, there's no set commitment to a full month or year.
And since you get access to all the earlier stuff, it's pretty good value at the moment: over 100 pages.

There's a good podcast interview with the editor on the subject here:

My only regret was that I waited to sign up. It's a nice replacement for Dragon.

After lurking around for a while and reading this thread, I finally caved in and became an EN5ider patron. For a few dollars a month I'd say it's more than worth it.

Regarding the specific issue of this thread, I'd say that conceptually, the Noble class does appropriately fill the niche of the Warlord. It does however have some thematic, power, and complexity concerns that would make me unwilling to allow it without a few modifications.

OK, guys, let's calm down, eh? I very much appreciate the sentiment from you guys arguing that EN5ider is totes good (it totally is!), but I think it's time to stop when someone who's clearly not interested in EN5ider is being badgered about it. Maybe he'll decide to check it out one day, maybe he won't, and both are OK, but this thread certainly isn't going to bring about the former. :)

And Shidaku, you're not entirely blameless. You came swinging hard right out of the gate in the very first reply. I can't blame folks for feeling attacked.

Let's drop this argument and get back to just discussing the class itself! Those who aren't interested in discussing the class can avail themselves of many other great threads here on EN World. There's no need to fight about something like this.
