D&D 4E Is there a shift toward 4E in the community ?

Yet Another 4E Thread. However, my question is more about the D&D community, and especialy the various messageboards. I wonder if there is not a change in the community attitude toward 4E, from "fear and disgust" to "resignation" or even "impatience". Some people seems to be tired by the avalanch of rules products in the last months/years : errata, alternative systems (Tome of magic), alternative sub-systems (metamagic), new class (how many bases classes ?), new races, rule's change (look at polymorph...)... I wonder if WotC is not trying to create the need for a streamlined, revamped, corrected system. When customers will beg for it, they will just need to recreate the 3e hype to ensure another success...

No, I don't think so. Personally, I love all the new options. When 3.0 came out, everyone complained that there was only one system of magic, or that there were two, but they were too similar. Well, now we've got about five or six systems of magic, and that's even more cool.

I agree that there's a lot to keep track of, but a lot of it is very modular - you can play a game with the base three books, the base three books and more monster books, the base three books and the complete books, the base three books and psionics, or the base three books and the PHII, and although the different combinations will vary, they don't require each other.

Why would anyone think 4e would also not have tons of supplements filled with rules that don't completely fit the core books?

Dunno about the community, in general, but I have no desire for 4E. I didn't even have a desire for 3.5. When I play d20, I still use 3.0 rules or AU/AE rules. Currently, though, I'm checking out systems like C&C, Lejendary Adventure, and True20. If a "streamlined and revamped" 4E went in that direction, I might take a look a it.
