D&D (2024) Is weapon mastery from your class tied to the mastery property or to individual weapons?

Legend
Barbarian: "Your training with weapons allows you to use the mastery properties of two kinds of Simple or Martial Melee weapons of your choice, such as Greataxes and Handaxes."

Fighter: "Your training with weapons allows you to use the mastery properties of three kinds of Simple or Martial weapons of your choice."

Paladin: "Your training with weapons allows you to use the mastery properties of two kinds of weapons of your choice with which you have proficiency, such as Longswords and Javelins."

Ranger: "Your training with weapons allows you to use the mastery properties of two kinds of weapons of your choice with which you have proficiency, such as Longbows and Shortswords."

Rogue: "Your training with weapons allows you to use the mastery properties of two kinds of weapons of your choice with which you have proficiency, such as Daggers and Shortbows."

Seems clear enough to me.

So as a Ranger I would get 2 masteries at level 1.

Would these two things be individual weapons or all weapons with that mastery.

Would I pick two weapons like say Dagger and Shortsword and get nick and vex when using those, but not when using Scimitars and hand crossbows?

OR

Would I pick two mastery types - say nick and vex and get to use mastery with any weapons I use that have those masteries?

The wording I have seen online is not real clear on this.
Former,

but I'm going to use latter as a house rule.
