Israeli army frowns on D&D (merged)

Only those who play fighters with low Wisdom scores. Me, I always play spellcaster, so my Will save is always high -- I'm not susceptible to influence.

True. If there's one thing D&D taught us, it's that Charisma is a dump stat. Except if you play a bard or sorcerer, but they suck anyway. Or a cleric or paladin, but then you get MAD (Multiple Ability Dependencies).

Heh -- I've met more gamers in the Intelligence field in the US military than any other field I could name. Don't know what planet the IDF is coming from on this one. Then again, we try not to take too many lessons from the IDF, mostly because ... <deletes what some might see as a political statement>.

I am not surprised at all. I don't expect anything rational coming from any army of any country.

Frankly, if anything, roleplayers are more fit for the army than average joe for a variety of reasons. For one, roleplayers spend their time running exercises in problem solving in theoretical hostile environments. For years, once per week.

A number of the follow-up comments were pointing out that the pictures were from "RD&D", which seems to be a form of LARP popular in Israel. Just Google "RD&D LARP" and see...

Anyone know anything more about this RD&D? The Hebrew is a leetle hard to read ;) Anyone know why they haven't been sued their asses off by WotC for using that name?

One of our group goes to and from Baghdad fairly frequently, and reports a thriving gaming community in the Green Zone.

And one of our former members (who did random crazy things, like nuking the library in RttToH) is in the DIA.
