Items speculation

What we know

Well it's pretty much a fact that 3e required too many magic items, and so their cutting it down. The list of what's left contains weapons,
2 sorts of boots, a rope, and a carpet.

It's worth noting that a lot of weapons are +2 with a +1 equilant enchancement (e.g. thundering) so +3, and are 9th lvl, with 1 +4 total at 12th lvl. Could point to about +1 per 3 levels, +10 total at 30th

Aside from that, what slots do you think will be used, weapons, feet and other?

My bet is weapons (including staffs and other wizard tools), armour (inc shields, and robes now that cloth is an armour type) and a max of 3 other items. Discuss

Well, I imagine that the most important magic items are going to be weapons, armor, and shields, and that other items are going to have lesser benefits. I hope (and expect) a lot of the various other slots will be removed. I do like the idea of there just being "miscellaneous" slots that can be used for boots, gloves, rings, amulets, etc.

Also, I think that plain +n weapons are going away, and that weapons will be less about a list of various abilities that are all given a +n equivalency, and instead will be more unique and interesting.

According to the Races and Classes book, magic items for the first ten levels will be +1 weapon and armor. The book doesn't go on to say about the other levels. You could be right perchy; the rules for the pluses might be every third level. That is ok with me. :)

That was slightly contradicted by the Design & Development article: "Magic Item Levels." It looks like a +2 sword (with the flaming or lightning property) will be appropriate for a character who's around level 10 (10th and 9th, respectively).

That sounds to me like +1 per approximately 5 levels. So that makes +1 appropriate around level 5, +2 around level 10, +3 around level 15, +4 around level 20, +5 around level 25, and +6 by around level 30.

That theory would handle the +6 wands we were told about.

but then the +3 vicious item at lvl 12 comes in 3 lvls too early, one lvl out is fair enough, but 3?

Ah, so i found where the en information came from
(http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drdd/20071203)
and the +2 flaming sword is lvl 10, the +2 lightning sword is still lvl 9. So per haps i need to re-work my theory
