Items that add to Caster level?

With only two slots even somewhat possible (debateable), plus the high cost for only a +1, I would have to say it is still way overpriced. Opportunity cost plus price, just too great for not enough effect.

But to each their own ;) I have no problem with them stacking, there are only a couple of problem spells with this, and they are a problem even if they dont stack.

Yeah, it not until you start casting spells like Holy Word (3.5) with an outrageously boosted caster level that things begin to explode in your face. But as a cleric, you could just go with all of the myriad items that divine casters get and forego the ioun stones altogether.

I on't have a problem with them stacking either, just wanted to point out that by the RAW they should not stack. In the epic arena it has been powerful, but not over powered.

By the RAW they should not stack, because even unnamed bonuses from he same source do no stack.

However, I have seen places where they are allowed to stack (Exodus Arena in my sig for one). It has been powerful because of the amount of money an epic character gets. In a lower level game, the 30k price tag makes it harder to justify loading up with 4-6 of these things.

Don't the RAW just mention spells in terms of the same source. Don't multiple defending weapons stack with each other, for example?

Even with that I would still think that it stacks with itself, sorry I wasnt clear on that earlier. That was why I was saying it wasnt overpowered to let it stack, because I think that by the core it does. But it is a tough call since there are a few things about sources and such ;) DM's call either way..

But the main reason I made this post, and it is a bit of a hijack, but about the last one they did on there.

Under jumping they have the character get a -4 armor check penalty to jump, does this penalty apply even when you are proficient with the armor?? I thought it went away when you had proficiency, but it is possible that I missed somewhere in the article them saying their test character was not proficient.

When you wear a type of armor with which you are proficient, the armor check penalty for that armor applies only to Balance, Climb, Escape Artist, Hide, Jump, Move Silently, Pick Pocket, and Tumble checks.

A character who is wearing armor with which she is not proficient applies its armor check penalty to attack rolls and to all skill checks that involve moving, including Ride.

I must just be getting confused about that. Easy to do after my psion who wandered around in mithril full plate all of the time, I couldnt hit or do most of the skills that required movement but at least I had armor! ;)

Hey, I've got an armor wearing psion too. :) an't afford full plate yet, and we're doing a lot of underwater adventuring right now, but I plan to get myself in a suit ASAP. :)
