It's in my hands...

I'm looking forward to the behind-the-scenes extras on disc 3 and 4. The documentaries in the FotR extended version boxed set were outstanding, and I'm sure these will be as well.

Peter Jackson and Co. are setting the standard by which all DVD releases should be judged.

The Gollum stuff is really excellent.

I watched most of the new scenes last night and am pretty pleased with all of them. The Faramir/Boromir stuff is excellent, should have been in the original release in my opinion. The extra ent stuff wasn't as good in my opinion, but was fun to watch.

Man, I got the set last night at Wal-Mart ($22.88 baby!), but I just don't know when I'll be able to watch it. I would throw it in and just watch the extended scenes, but I'd rather see it all together.

Maybe this weekend...

Olgar, this is one of those little situations in life where you are supposed to just say "Honey, I'm buying it, and I won't hear a word against it".

Of course, I'm not married, and currently don't even have a girlfriend, so I may not be the best one for advice on this...

:D If we hadn't just dropped $2k on a new laptop, I'd probably do just that!

The spousal unit's a fantasy/sci-fi fan -- I'm going to be travelling the day ROTK comes out, and she made me promise I wouldn't go see it until I get back and can take her -- but she's odd about seeing movies/TV shows or rereading books a 2d time; she can't stand repeats, while I happily reread LOTR about twice a year. Though she did say she liked seeing TTT again when I dragged her to the theater the second time (we we just taking her dad to see it, I swear :D )

Spousal Unit: "You're watching that again?"
Olgar: "This time it's the art director's commentary on FotR. It's not like I'm just watching the DVD again ... (sotto voce) like I did yesterday."
Spousal Unit:

So the TTT EE battle goes like this:

Olgar: "But it's got forty minutes of new scenes!"
Spousal Unit:

Guess I shouldn't have weakened my position by buying the theatrical release too. :)

Olgar: "They're different cuts! Almost like different movies!"
Spousal Unit:

Ah, well -- I'm holding one of her 1E character sheets for ransom, just so she can't claim she isn't a geek too (though she hasn't played since Jr. High).

Watched the first DVD with director commentary last night. (I bought just the DVDs, not the statue set; with money tight, the bonuses weren't worth the extra money IMHO.) The commentary is very funny at times; PJ's statement about peasants when the three riders are entereing Edoras will be my new sig as soon as I have it written down. Paraphrased, he basically says that when it came to filming the peasants of the city, he kept expecting to hear someone shouting "Bring out your dead!", and said that it was dodgy sometimes becuase there is a thin line between Monty Python and Lord of the Rings, at times. :) (It was funnier when he said it, but I appreciated the fact that he was thinking of the good ol' HOLY GRAIL. :) )
