A clear 4 for me, if I take it to mean not just D&D but all RPGs (and miniature games).

I've been gaming for more than 25 years, and for few years it was my livelyhood. Now it is what I prefer to do a couple of evenings every week, and the area my mind wanders to as soon as it has the leisure to do so. Most of my friends I know through gaming.

As I've gotten busier it has become more like just a game. When last we played, the campaign was humming along strongly but with the end of study workload crashing down on me, I've effectively cancelled the last 5 weeks of play & the next 2 weeks as well.

For me it is just a game but I expect a bit of consideration even when playing risk. Our spare time is limited & waiting for some no-show p's me off royally, but then I'm high strung.

I've found that the more I age and the more baggage I get under my belt, the further down that list I fall.

Once upon a time, I lived D&D (and roleplaying games in general), but now I'm at the "It's more than just a game; it is a regular pastime." and edging into "It's just a game, not unlike RISK or Monopoly or XBox."

I voted 4, but the option I really wanted is "It's just a game, and also a major part of my life." The poll may not have meant to go there, but sometimes "it's more than just a game man, it's real to me!" comes across as a bit creepy. So, I love the practice of gaming, and thinking about it, it's easily my favourite structured activity with my friends. BUT, if I had to choose to ONLY spend time with my friends "socialising", or ONLY game, I'd ditch the game.

Of course, the game itself is a social activity, but it is a "game", and someone prioritising the game to the exclusion of everything else would concern me, just like someone prioritise soccer, or stamp collecting, or anyhting else obsessively.

Rassilon (who despite the above spends waaaaay to much time chewing over D&D related thoughts).

I voted 1. While I do enjoy D&D quite a bit and put a lot of effort into the sessions I run, my players and I understand that it's just a game and don't take it too seriously.

I probably would have voted 2, but ever since World of Warcraft came out, D&D has turned into something that we did 2-3 times a month to something we do maybe once every 3-4 months. ;)

First and formost, its just a game, and if we dont play for a few weeks I dont freak out.

But, gaming is the way I reduce my stress, how I interact with the majority of my friends during "downtime", and its my primary hobby. In addition, I schedule my other activities (overtime, jobs around the house, family time & church) in such a way that I can have a reguler weekly gaming session.

I guess that means its more than just a hobby.

Roleplaying Games are a major part of my life.

Because of the wide acceptance and spread of available materials, D&D has become a dedicated hobby that takes up a good half of that part of my life.

My wife would say I am a 5. I like to think I am a 3.5 which means I'm a 4. The fact that I refer to every second Saturday as my "gaming fix" dosen't help.

D&D and other Roleplaying Games are just games, that many people play as a dedicated hobby or a regular pasttime.

My group and I treat D&D just like any other regular communal hobby/pasttime like weekly poker games, getting together to watch Monday night football, heading out to a baseball game or playing a round of golf. It's just a game that we use as a good excuse to get together every week and discuss it as a shared hobby and pasttime.

It is a major part of my life. At least half of what I read is gaming related, whether rule books or fiction. A lot of the fiction I write is fantasy, inspired by things I've thought of while "working" on D&D stuff. I think people like Monte Cook are "living the dream" as it were.
