Its Overwhelming!!

The amount of material out there right now is beyond staggering, and trying to keep up with it, well would be a full time job. I have found some great material out there as well as material I wish I had never spotted. So being one who likes to look before he leaps, I was wondering what materials besides the basic core books and setting books, do other DM's out there feel that they use on a regular every game session basis. What books do you really really use?? Is it mostly additional monster compendiums, rule supplements, class specific books??

I myself have found that monster supplements are the main product that I like to add to my arsenal, and well I'm looking for suggestions for some new monster books to add to my collection. I'm looking for some well balanced monsters that make sense. My current arsenal includes creature collection I & II and tome of horrors I & II, which include several enjoyable monsters.

So does anyone have any recommendations for some more great monsters that I can use?

Because I like kicking people when they're down... :]

Seconding Minions 3.5 plus Ronin Arts' Iconic Bestiary, Brixbrix's Guide to Creatures of Ados, Swarm of Stirges and Maze of the Minotaur (if you want to use those creatures), Template Troves I & II, Creatures of the Endless Dark, Creatures of the Boundless Blue, The Other Side (Valent Games) [looks at the basic humanoid races], and Primal Urge's series meant to be PC races- many of them are interesting.

There are a lot of gems out there that are just not that popular.

You need a new monster for your game?
No need for another book, you need look no further than the SRD, and copy the stats of a Troll (listed below) and tweek as necessary.

Change the type, make a new description, swap out regeneration for some other ability, like poison sting (bite), or DR, and you have a new monster. At CR 5 it makes a really tough low level BBEG, at high levels it makes a survivable mook.

I could make a monster book based on this idea alone.

Recycle, Reuse, Renew.....

Troll
Size/Type: Large Giant

Trolls walk upright but hunched forward with sagging shoulders. Their gait is uneven, and when they run, their arms dangle and drag along the ground. For all this seeming awkwardness, trolls are very agile.

A typical adult troll stands 9 feet tall and weighs 500 pounds. Females are slightly larger than males. A troll’s rubbery hide is moss green, mottled green and gray, or putrid gray. The hair is usually greenish black or iron gray.

Trolls speak Giant.
Combat

Trolls have no fear of death: They launch themselves into combat without hesitation, flailing wildly at the closest opponent. Even when confronted with fire, they try to get around the flames and attack.
Rend (Ex)

If a troll hits with both claw attacks, it latches onto the opponent’s body and tears the flesh. This attack automatically deals an additional 2d6+9 points of damage.
Regeneration (Ex)

Fire and acid deal normal damage to a troll. If a troll loses a limb or body part, the lost portion regrows in 3d6 minutes. The creature can reattach the severed member instantly by holding it to the stump.

The three books that I consult religiously are:

Monster Manual I
Dangerous Denizens
And whatever the heck the d20 Ravenloft monster book is called...I forget.

The Expanded Psionics Handbook sees almost constant use.
Libris Mortis I have, strangely, found myself turning to time and time again.
I've used the Monster Manual III quite a bit too.
I'm planning an adventure around a creature from the Monsternomicon.
Complete Adventurer sees the most use out of all the class-books I own.

Check out the Monsternomicon by Privateer Press. It's a fantastic monster book.
Denizens of Avadnu by Inner Circle Games may interest you.
Monster Manual III is my favorite WotC Monster Book (aside from the MM3.5).

The Lorax is absolutely right. If you dont' have time to change the stats, all you need to do is change the description. Just say trolls aren't green warty things... maybe they are hairy sasquatch-looking things, or reptilian, or big fungus men. blink dogs? make 'em blink wolves. Griffon? It's a combination raven and wolf. Basilisk? It looks like an aardvark with antlers.
