I've just seen a fantastic D&D movie...

Plane Sailing

Astral Admin - Mwahahaha!
And its name was Beowulf :)

I was able to see it in 3d, which was quite eye-popping in certain circumstances.

But the story, as told for the cinema here, was so D&D! Lone heroes taking on horrific monsters! Dark caverns full of treasure! Ogres! Seductresses! Giant fire breathing dragons! Curses! Vast heroism! Inordinate bragging!

(I enjoyed it by the way!)

Cheers

Beowulf is an old-school Fighter, with that chainmail and bare legs.

Here's a test for 4E designers: stat Beowulf!

You forgot: Angelina Jolie's ... huge tracts of land.

It's not that you saw a D&D movie when you watched Beowulf, it's that you play a Beowulf game when you play D&D. :)

That said, you make me want to see the Beowulf movie now.

I don't want to say the movie is bad, because I don't know (haven't been able to see it yet). However, I do disagree with this combination.

A lone hero taking on horrific monsters isn't D&D. D&D is a party of adventurers taking on horrific monsters. IMO, the perfect D&D movie has a group of heroes, each with their own niche, as the heroes (Firefly/Serenity comes pretty close, for example).

I do expect to see the movie, and expect to enjoy it. I'm sure it will be able to give me ideas for D&D.
