15th century European combat. It's mostly bastard sword but unarmed, dagger and spear are part of the mix too.

Wow, that's certainly different. I expected to hear "Taekwon Do at the Y" or something, not bastard sword combat! That sounds pretty cool. Does someone teach this privately, then? Color me interested. Oh, and uh...hijack, hijack, hijack!

Here's the info page of Schola Gladiatoria, the martial arts club to which I belong. There's more about the training here.

As you say, this is a bit OT for this thread but if you want to ask me any questions about it, go right ahead.

Those of you with good memories will recall that I set out to shed 2 stone (28 lbs, 12.7 kg) at the end of May.
I thought that was closer to 3 stone.

Wow, that's very interesting. Thanks for the link. How long have you been doing this?

Congrats, Zander! Keep up the good work ....

Just remember, that maintenance is just making sure you only
eat when you're hungry. You've probably felt hungry while losing
the weight as you were not surplusing your kcals : now, try for
satiation without indulgence.

Zander>>Here's the info page of Schola Gladiatoria,

Grr...Great Britain only. Couldn't have something cool like that in
the US, now, could we! :(

Only a few months but I've been a serious armchair student of 15th c. European combat for many years.

Maybe because I have some experience of Japanese martial arts (including training in Japan) or maybe because I'm a natural, but several people at my 15th c. European martials arts club mistakenly believe that I've been doing it for years.

Sure you could and do. It's taught by various clubs across the US.

In fact, when I was in Chicago for a week in May, I wanted to take a class there. Unfortunately, the way the local training is run, you can't attend just one class; you can only sign up and pay for an entire course at a time. :\

One place to start looking for a local club in the US is The ARMA. There may be other US-based governing bodies. Also try googling "swordsmanship" and your local area.

Good luck!

Even more congratulations Zander!

Due to your heavy activity level and restricted caloric intake that probably prevented muscle growth, I think you can expect to gain a few pounds of muscle once you start eating healthy again. Especially if you keep up the exercise.

To maintain you should keep up your exercise, eat when hungry & stop eating when you’re full. Your weight should stabilize naturally.

Once again, congrats!

Sam
