I've reversed my stance on dragonborn and tieflings

Heck, the essay pretty much explicitly says that tieflings are in and aasimars are out of the PHB because evil is cool and good is boring.
Yes, but the intended new D&D audience wants to be able to play the bad guys as standard, just like they can in World of Wa...a computer game which 4E is nothing like, and completely not trying to poach a consumer base from.

Dude, don't start that.

People have enjoyed being the bad guys for a looooong time.

Now you just get that option from the start.

I mean cripes there are so many old D&D books that let you play monsters...

Not to mention, you know, anti-paladins, assassins, and so forth.

I'm still waiting to hear you say something discriminating about the 4E game which isn't all pro pro pro, defend defend defend, though.

You know, Mourn may be strident, but it's also possible that he or she honestly likes everything they've told us.

I know that I haven't heard anything I feel critical about at this point, at least nothing that comes to mind, and though I think an engaged critical stance is the very best stance to have I don't know that you can expect it at this point in a product development cycle.

Except, of course, with regard to the marketing itself since that's the only part of the product we're actually seeing at this point.

And for that, yeah, I would have liked to have seen something playable on at least a minor level by now. Though I suppose we do have Saga.

I don't get why people complain that Tieflings look emo, guys have you seen one of those emo kid in real life? They don't look anything like Tieflings ;)
The new Tiefling design reminds me much more of Hellboy which is a good thing in my book.

You see, dark and "evil" doesn't have to be emo and whiny. :D

I find myself liking the tiefling looks, with the large horns and the big tails; they have a nice, gargoyle-like look and feel to them, which fits the idea that they're the accursed descendants of people who dealt with the devils.

Personally, I'd deal with the issue of the pictured tieflings looking so obviously nonhuman by making the horns, tail and possible other features, such as glowing eyes or what have you, manifest only as the tiefling grows older and/or more powerful. So, a tiefling baby or a child is going to look quite human, with maybe just a little stump of a tail or a couple of bumps on his or her skull... but the adventurous ones in the pictures, the ones who go out of their way to increase their personal power, will soon bring out their inhuman ancestry.

On the subject of dragonborn... I like the designs a lot; and they're a lot less controversial than tieflings! The wing-like cloaks are a neat stylistic issue, just like the use of (dragon?) bones in their equipment. "We honor our ancestors by making them part of our panoply," perhaps.

Oh, alright. But it's 2008. My quota of allowable WoW, anime, and katana criticisms has been reset.

Yeah, but you gotta make them last for the whole year, instead of just from August to December. Be sparing. ;)

Not a prominent enough part of the game for me to have even heard of it before. Must've been living under a rock.

Monster Manual (v3.5), page 93-95
Book of Exalted Deeds, page 168-171
Manual of the Planes, page 162

That's several referrences just in the last edition. Must not have read anything outside the core... oh wait, they're right there in the core books too.

Just because you haven't heard of something doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

I bet 5e will have an even stronger Japanese-fantasy thrust and a concern with being portable for videogames, because it will be based on the imaginations of people coming of age in an era of Pokemon and Naruto.

So you're saying that 5E will make Summoner a core class?
