I've turned around on Downer

On their own, I hated Downer. But now that I sat down and read them in order... I'm dying to get the next one.

I think the earlier ones were really disjointed, there's a LOT of characters for so few panels, there's a lot of "meanwhiles" and it's hard to know what's happening. So it doesn't surprise me that it didn't work so well for 2 pages per month.

I still don't like it, and the newer format leaves a lot of stuff to be done in "recap" style at the start of the strip, but since the strip itself doesn't deliver any action or funny or interesting stuff to me, I can't see how it's worth learning about it.

I tried to like Downer. I choked my way through each month, hoping that I would some day find it entertaining. I have given up, the last couple of strips I have just skipped altogether and I likely won't be returning. Some may enjoy it, such is your choice and I won't condemn you for it. For me, it's just a couple of pages of wasted space in Dungeon.

Downer? What is this? Linkage???

Downer is a strange and not very funny comic strip that's been in Dungeon Magazine for several years IIRC. I've only read it in a few issues, as I don't find it to be worthwhile (though the idea of a mindflayer who hates eating brains is amusing, if nothing else; this illithid is one of Downer's traveling companions in the Underdark, from what little I've been able to gather of the strip's awful set-up and style). Any comic you can't start reading at any random point and find some small interest in, and then understand reasonably well after a few strips, is not worth reading at all, IMO.
