Jail Break.

Realmslord

First Post
I have a group, 2nd level, that wants to free an ally of theirs from Jail.
A healer is waiting in a small town jail, for the king's guard to arrive for pick up, after the deep snows melt.
(She is suspected of aiding a group of brigands)

What would spice up or expand the adventure, obstacles, foes, traps, reinforced cells? My creative juices are running dry.

This is sort of a side module, but it may get the PC names put down in some county's books as outlaws. (If they don't hide their identies.)

It is a small jail. Maybe 3 cells. (think old west type.)
The healer is just being held to be interrogated/questioned.
The PCs believe it may include torture.
She is not considered to be a danger.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Couple considerations:

-Obviously, who else is in the jail. Two options come to mind:

First, if the party thinks it's a good idea to break someone out during the coming blizzard (hehe) maybe someone else does, too. Could be that one of the other prisoners has allies coming for them, too. Or maybe the people really behind the healer's alleged crime want to "rescue" the healer and keep the heat where it's at now.

Second, maybe there is an "interesting" prisoner in the jail. Ever see that episode of the Twighlight Zone where the devil is being held prisoner in a monestary and talks the man who's ended up trapped by a snow storm into letting him out? Does your campaign have a tricky BBEG, or space for a tricky BBEG? Maybe the "poor man" is being tortured in the next cell over and needs the PCs help to escape as well. After he does.... MMWWAAAHHHHAAAAHHAAAHHHAAA!!!!

-Also, who else is in town:

Small town, winter weather; is the town near a pass or some other significant trade location? Maybe someone has been stuck in town with some "interesting" cargo. I know Dungeon had an adventure in the mid-90's (years, not issues, because I don't recall the issue number) in which the party (or was it designed for a single character?) was trapped in a small town inn by a blizzard. As it happened, some mercanaries were trapped there as well, including one recently impregnated with a slaad egg... naturally grizzly fun resulted. :D

All I'm good for for now...

Throw in an NPC with a lot of tattoos and his bro that is going to be hung in the town square the next day....

If the King's Guards can't get through the deep snow, how do the PCs intend to? You do not trap holding cells without a really good reason. Otherwise you're bound to catch a tired guard every once in a while.
