James Wyatt + Eberron

But Realms Shaking Events are a cliche for a reason, and this will hardly be the first time the Realms are shaken up by the publishers.
Aye, and that's the sort of thing that makes me wonder why people get upset when the RSEs come knocking. I mean, you kind of have to know what you're getting yourself into with FR at this point. When you throw together 100+ deities that just can't bear to leave each other or the cosmos alone, you're going to get world-shifting events out of it.

But eh. Either way, I'm happy to hear that Eberron is getting 4E attention; I don't want to have to sit through an entire year of FR material before getting any Eberron, and that was how it initially sounded things would be.

I'd've been fine with a small timeline advance. I'd've been disappointed with Eberron Shaking Events; the world's too new to need breaking and reassembling for a new edition. But leaving it be is fine, too.

I think you can do a campaign world changing event about once a decade (though this is pure speculation; the only published setting I've played in a lot is Eberron). More often than that and you end up breaking campaigns and annoying fans. But leaving the setting static for too long causes problems, too.

Wow. I haven't been frequenting the WotC Eberron boards much lately, but was there really an outcry about this?

When it comes to the FR timeline, I can at least understand the dislike from some people. 100 years is a major jump, and a lot of changes.

But two years? People were upset about two years? Really?

Huh.

I would actually have no problem with a timeline advancement. After all, if I don't like the current timeline of any established campaign world, I either use a previous one or create my own.

Vocal minority was upset that this was setting precedence for Eberron to advanced and changed and new advanced storylines and novels will become canon and then cats and dogs living together.

I hope they do include all the "suggested future events" they can fit in; I love the "no metaplot, but here's some ideas if you want 'em." Exalted does much the same.

It would be especially cool if some of the suggested events were (at least apparently) mutually contradictory.

I just hope they still implement a few of the subtle changes they were planning to, introducing new villains or shape the political landscape in various areas some more.

An example that was given about such changes (that was pulled out of the developer's butt on the spot as a made up example) was a sahuagin pirate king in the Thunder Sea, or a Seren barbarian king coming into Q'Barra and uniting several Cold Sun tribes into a new group, increasing the tensions in Q'Barra.

Doesn't hurt my feelings any. Eberron has been the most used setting in our group for the past two years, and given that it's only three years old at this point, advancing the timeline before exploring the whole realm is just too fast for me -- especially given that I don't see any advancement on the schedule for the rest of 2007 and 2008.

The Realms fans, I feel for - the baby didn't not only grow up, it got a college degree, married, and moved to a different state. :)
