Sands blow across the Western Desert carrying stories of treasures from our fabled past. You, Great Scribe, have been tasked with researching the ancient writings to confirm these stories. Once you are done, Pharaoh shall send those with the strongest arms, wisest minds, and most tireless legs to search for and return these items to our land. Thus will our glory be sung throughout the Ages. Thus will our people live for all Time. All will be good in the eyes of the gods.

Find your way to JonBrazer.com. Submit your findings for review, and Pharaoh may reward you handsomely.

This is a highly truncated version of stuff we used in our Egyptian D&D:

When an Egyptian warrior kills an enemy, he is awarded a hornet, representing a sting upon the enemy nation. The hornet is a small brass pin, shaped like a Vespa orientalis, and is worn on the left breast. When the soldier has 5 confirmed kills, his 4 previous brass hornets are exchanged for one silver one as an upgrade. Therefore a soldier who has killed 22 Libyans, for example, has 4 Silver and 2 Brass Hornets on his uniform.

When he has 25 kills, all his hornets thus far convert into a Hive, which is a Silver pin
shaped like a stylized pyramidal nest. Thus a soldier with 31 kills wears 1 silver hive, 1 silver hornet, and 1 brass hornet.

At 100 kills, he gains a Golden hive. at 300 kills, a Platinum hive.
At his commanders discretion, if a soldier kills a large war-beast, or destroys a catapult,
or takes down an enemy wizard or other high-value or high-hit dice target, he can
be awarded silver or golden hornets directly. Golden hornets represent extreme valor
or daring, and are not normally exchanged for hives later on, but they nominally represent "12 stings".

Now the hornets and hives are not magic items in and of them selves, but what is often done is that a Mass Bless spell, or the aura of a Battle Standard will radiate out to all soldiers in range. Often the soldier will benefits from a +1 morale bonus to hit and damage and half on AC, up to the square root of the "value of his hives+hornets worn", to a maximum of +5 to hit and +5 to Armor Class.

(Example: 3 soldiers receives a Mass Battle Bless.)
- Sal the Rookie gets the spell as described, which lasts for as long as the description reads.
- Ahmad wears one Brass Hornet. He gets the above, but retains +1 to hit for the rest of the battle.
- Nebo the Valorous is wearing a Golden Hive, he is +5 hit, +5 AC for the rest of the battle.

feel free to use it or not, I just posted it cause your idea brought back good memories.

Happy Halloween Eve! We are two weeks into the JBE open call with one month to go. If you find yourself with an Ancient Egyptian item idea you are not going to submit to RPGSS, consider submitting it to this open call. :)

Email item(s) in the body of an email titled Egyptian Item Submission to "submissions <at> jonbrazer <dot> com".

How's about an Architect's Rod:

Apparently made of solid gold and richly decorated with exquisite cast detail, this item was given to the most trusted of the architects on the great building projects the Pharoahs demanded. An instrument of office and the trust that Pharoah showed in the bearer, they were also useful items in their own right. Capable of a number of simple tasks to aid an engineer, it also bears some enchantments for self defence in case the bearer ran into bandits, wild animals or the occasional slave revolt.
The item is marked with regular notches along its length, ¾ of an inch apart. Every sixteen markings (1') there is a larger notch. The rod is two feet long. Along the side are (hieroglyphs, pictograms, whatever your Egypt-derived culture uses) praising a long-dead Pharoah and declaring the original owner's skill and prowess.

With one command word, the rod will hover in place (defying anything but a very strong wind but easily movable by the user). If roughly upright, the rod will always correct itself to be pointing straight up. If roughly horizontal, the rod will correct itself to be perfectly horizontal. When moving it, the rod applies a gentle pressure (similar to a fairly strong magnet) to stay at the same height, regardless of the incline or roughness of the ground. Physically removing the rod frees it completely.
With a second command word, the rod will extend steadily (up to 3' per round) until either it hits an obstruction, reaches a total length of 10' or the command word is repeated. When it does so, more notched markings appear on the extended portions of the rod, allowing it to be used as a measure.
A third command word causes it to shrink at the same rate, to a minimum length of one foot.
A fourth command word causes a small trickle of water to flow from the base. While not much - roughly ten minutes to fill a cup - it is enough to quickly judge how flat a dry stone surface is.

When 2-3' long, the rod may be used as a +1 club.
When 4-5' long, the rod may be used as a +1 greatclub.
It is enchanted to withstand use in combat.

How's about an Architect's Rod

Hi, ccooke. If you want us to consider the Architect's Rod for the open call, please follow the directions higher up the thread - Especially the first post by Dale. :)

To ensure fairness in the process, any other means of submission will not be considered. I'd hate for your item not to be considered because I failed to direct you to the JBE site and the directions/template you'll find there.

Thanks.

Your wait is over! Final item selection wrapped up tonight. Emails will go out to all who submitted an item (or more) for consideration tonight and tomorrow. Contracts will follow shortly thereafter for those who were selected. The contract may get to you before my email notification does because Dale is handling them. If you've heard nothing by Tuesday morning, please message me.

Thank you for your interest, participation and patience. Those who submitted items didn't exactly make it easy on me. ;) [Thank you for that, btw]

My target date to have this wrapped up and released is the beginning of February. This date is subject to final approval by Dale so don't quote me on that.

Have a very Happy New Year! Stay safe and game on. :)
